Pet budgy?

My son wants an owl ( never going to happen) but we are seriously considering a budgy as a pet.
My grandparents had many birds when I was a child and gained great pleasure from them and I certainly enjoyed them. They also had catsx2 and dogs x2 and all lived happily.

But are birds not done anymore? I am not really a caged animal type of person the cat is a member of the family. I know they can be very tame grandparents cockatoo sat on top of its cage and a budgy could talk. Grandparents now dead so can’t ask for advice .

So advice on if it’s a silly idea? ( quite possibly)
Boy/ girl 1 or 2
Practical considerations

Anyone got one ? Please tell me all

Please consider what is natural for the bird before you get one. A cage isn't a suitable environment, you need a decent size aviary, so the bird can actually fly. Some people do keep them in cages and allow them space to fly around the house - but are you prepared to deal with bird shit everywhere? And budgies live in flocks, so should definitely not be kept alone, I think even just a couple is pushing it.

I would very much like to have birds, but don't feel I can offer them the time or space they need, so do not currently have them, although I have in the past.

Yes that’s my feeling grandparents had massive walk in Avery thing the the garden for them then they also came in house for company time. Very unsure about it really.

We had two but they were out all day and only in their cage when they chose to be, we kept the door open except at night. They do poo in the house but you know where, usually on your curtain rail,
