Hand hold for my bunny

He appears to have bloat but without the symptoms associated with it. He is eating and drinking and weeing and pooping.
But his stomach is big and round. I spoke to the vets and he’s going in first thing in the morning. I’m feeling really anxious about it already, I have had him 7 years.

Was he ok?

Crazybunnylady123 · 20/10/2019 23:51

No, he had to be put to sleep.

I’m so sorry to hear this - I don’t have rabbits but know how heartbreaking it is to have to make that decision. If you still want to take the thread down you can report it to MNHQ, but you may find that you get some comfort from it, when everyone is back on line in the morning. Flowers and a handhold to you.

I keep looking at his cage and forgetting it’s empty. He was such a soppy lovely rabbit. I can’t believe he’s gone.

Very sad to have to make that difficult decision but when you know deep down there's no other option you have done the best thing for your rabbit . Did your get give you any feedback on the diagnosis? I wouldn.t personally go for a post mortem but I would want as much information as was possible as to why my pet deteriorated. I've had guinea pigs (the last one died in April) and they can suddenly go downhill . It is quite sad to read a thread that an animal is ill then gone (even with very quick vet treatment ). Though our last girl had a really bad eye ulcer .We thought she'd lose the eye. She recovered .got the all clear on the Friday . Died in her sleep on the Sunday . Sometimes there are no answers but at least on 'Small Pets' you won.t get told "It's only a rabbit". ( I was ready to remove the testicles of the git who asked why I spent £60 treating them euthanising guinea pig number 5 when she only cost me a tenner 😠 )

He went to the vets as I suspected bloat. Vet gave him the all clear and said he had arthritis due to age. Eating less because of the pain.
Next day he definitely had bloat, not eating or pooping and looking very sick.
Rushed up to the vets and saw a different vet. Bloke said my bunny had a 60% chance of living, so I then went ahead with some injections and meds. Sat with him most of the night. Next day still really I’ll and took him back again to my usual vet and she said he was too far gone. I literally did everything I could to save him, it cost so much money and I still lost him even though I caught it really early.
I spend what it takes to help my animals as they are my responsibility, but it stings to be in debt and not have my rabbit still.

I tried to save mine too. I would have gone ahead and operated because there was a chance we could have saved her. In the end it was inoperable. A couple of weeks later I had to put her to sleep.
I am so glad I did spend that money on her though. I loved that bunny so much. She was so special. And she was loved right to the end
