My male guinea pig, 4 years old

I have two male guinea pigs, not related and approximately 4.8 years old. I brought them in to play in the kitchen and one has spent quite a while chasing after the other and side mounting. I have googled and it seems to be normal dominance but I have separated them as the other one did not want the attention. I am now worried they will be too upset being apart. Any suggestions would be lovely, especially as I have to go out for an hour shortly.

After 15 minutes DS put them back together and it was so sweet. Lots and lots of squeaking from the banished one, put his head on the others head twice while he was in bed and it really looked like he was saying sorry. He is now having a snack and the other looks to be having a snooze.

So glad they have made up. Its normal boar behaviour. Unless one is actually drawing blood from the other don’t separate.

Thank you, @fortifiedwithtea.

There has been a few more dominant episodes but I have left them together. It is hard though as guinea pig 2 doesn't like the actions of his mate, though he is turning around to face him as if to say back off.
