Its still pretty raw, crying loads.

Lovely afternoon picked Millie up from her hutch to take her to the garden. Back legs paralysed and fur very soiled. Obviously been like it a while. Thought it was odd her snuggled up on the hay so long.

Gave her a bath and rang vet. Dried her off. She recovered a bit. She had a lovely couple of hours on the grass surrounded by her humans. We took pictures to remember her last day.

Vet examination. Best guess is the new and large ovarian tumour was pressing on and off on her spine. She had lost some feeling in her back right leg. Given the option to take her home on pain relief but vet agreed with me the kindest thing was to let her go now.

Its a comfort to know she passed very peacefully..

Here is the last photo of Millie taken today. She was eating grass and dandelions right up to the last moment.

We didn’t even put her in the pet carrier. I cuddled her in a towel in the car. We took the carrier just in case there was 50 million dogs in the waiting room but luckily it was empty.

Run free at the Bridge dear Millie. You were a guinea pig in a million. Join your friends, pain free.

My thoughts are with you, I’ve been there many times. Sending love your way. You sound like you gave her a fabulous life. 🌺🌺

Oh fortified I'm so sorry to hear this. Such a lovely piggie. Madampig will be glad of the company over the bridge though. It's good that she had a lovely last day and it was quick for her. Take care of yourself. Thanks

Ohhhh Millie Sad

Bless her , she was a real trooper ( 8yo+ ) is a legendary innings

Sounds like she had decided it was her 'time' to go . It does not get easier being left with the Guinea-Pig Sized Hole in the heart

She had a lovely last day and went to the Bridge with a belly full of grass .

Millie and MadamPig can give join forces with Tilly and give Bert a run for his money .

Snotty wailing at the Vets is perfectly acceptable , it would be strange to not be moved by the loss of a little Super Furry

So sorry for the loss of Millie Flowers

Thanks everyone. House was horribly quiet Wednesday. Unusally everyone’s shift pattern meant I was alone and DD2 was on a school outing. Have been away for a few days. Older kids at home preparing for their holiday.

Working on wearing DH down, we all want a puppy!

When our last piggie died , we got two young adult cats ( we used to have a female cat years ago and my DH has always made it known he'd like more but obviously not while we had the pigs)

I hate being disloyal to the guineas but cats are less work . OK, they let themselves in/out and muck abut when we try to get them in.
And their food and pooh smells worse than guineas .
And they are jaggy on all four corners with razor teeth.

But no hay ..................!

I still miss the hogs but I could see myself trying to wrangle them out of the pig run when I was ancient (more ancient) and it looked hard work. So we made the decision to let our herd dwindle naturally .

I'm so sorry Thanks

Visited the guinea pig rescue yesterday. Donated all the left over hay, Burgess and bits and pieces a new owner could use.

We saw the piggies waiting for their forever homes. Impressed at how speedy the babies are. Think I would struggle to catch one now, I’m fairly stiff these days. Already I’m thinking I don’t miss the hay everywhere.

Got introduced to rescue lady’s lovely calm dogs and listened to her advice on dog ownership. Still lots to think about.

Sorry to hear this. It seems like all the people on here from when we started with GPs 5 years ago are now pig free? All those reliable sources of advice - please keep on here for us!
I still think of names you've had for all of them - whenever we run out of much variety of food, our boys get a 'scruffypig' tea which is all green Wink
