Sadly had to have our remaining pig, Madampig, put to sleep this morning. She suddenly went off her legs yesterday and although had a substantial meal last night, was declining food and water this morning. After a good examination it was decided it wouldn't be fair to let her carry on (she also has a mammary lump).

So I'm now pig-less after 8 years of constant wheeking whenever I opened the fridge. Tomorrow I'll have to mow the lawn myselfShock. I do feel bereft. I miss all the pigs we've had over the last few years and my kitchens not the same without their noises.

Those of you who know me will be pleased to know Currentbun is still going relatively strong (he's an old bun now) and was not at all affected by our loss this morning. His main gripe was that I combed him thoroughly - he's still sulking now Confused

Fernie I am so sorry. 😔

RIP MadamPig plenty of Super Furry animals from this board ready to greet you at the Bridge. Flowers

FernieB · 07/08/2019 10:04

Thanks fortifiedSmile. I do miss her but there's plenty of pigs over the Bridge to greet her. I've already warned DH that more pigs may be rescued in the autumn - I just like having them aroundGrin.

Sad that all the old regular guinea pig owners seem to have left after the passing of their small furries. Feels like will the last one left please turn out the lights.

Millie is approaching 8 1/2 years. She has her days with rattling breathing, does a loud cough, clears whatever and carries on.

FernieB · 08/08/2019 19:56

Good old MillieGrin. She's a very 'all in a day' kind of pig - just gets on with pig business and doesn't let age interfere with eating etc.

It is a shame the old guard have largely disappeared. I shall stick around and will no doubt have more pigs by AutumnWink

Oh MadamPig Sad

I am Old Guard and I do waft onto this site time to time (just to keep my nose in)

How old was she? I remember when you got her for her lovely GingerPig .

In the very hot weather we had I was thinking about all the furries (and I put a post on Chat to just to remind people that it's not just dogs that suffer )

The Rainbow Bridge must be positively creaking under the footfall (or paw fall)

Good to hear Millie and CurrentBun are still whittering on loudly Wink

Thanks 70. We're not sure on age. Think Heidi (Madampig) was about 4.5, although could be older. She was 1-2 years old when we adopted her and she'd been bred from at least once. Not the best start for a pig but I like to think she had a luxury life with us (although she would probably have said differentlyGrin). Klaus (Gingerpig) adored her and guarded her closely. After his death, she seemed to come out of her shell, so perhaps he guarded her too much!

It's been strange this week with no pigs to clean out and no wheeking when I open the fridge. Currentbun did a loud grunt yesterday but it's not the same as pig chatterWink. I have already done a quick trawl of rescue sites but not told DH. I'm thinking I'd like a pair of boars again - I just love their grumblingGrin.

I went straight over to the herbs and sweetcorn in Tesco today and said excitedly to DD "Ooh they have leafy sweetcorn for the pigs............oh"

Old habits die hard .
DD still saves her strawberry tops !
