He's just back from the vets but seems worse than ever.

Took him in as wasnt eating, hunching up in pain and squealing. They said it was gastric stasis. Been on medicine and sent home with some.

But he's twitching and his back legs arent working properly! Put him in cage and his back legs just collapsed, I reached in to him and he did run off but barely and not at all in a normal way. Then he just lay down and couldnt/wouldnt move.

Went in to get him and he didnt even move a muscle to get away. Have him wrapped in cozy blanket and snuggled in. He has always HATED cuddles before.

Oh and his the skin round his eyes is all crusty now and wasnt when he went in to the vets. He just seems so poorly I dont know whey they said he was better and to come get him?

Does it sound bad?

Sorry to hear your piggie is poorly. Is he drinking independently, if not you may need to syringe feed fluids,

What medicine did the vet give?

Parrish · 21/07/2019 23:32

Can you use a syringe to get some water into him?

OvO · 21/07/2019 23:34

He hasnt had any water since we came home about 2 hours ago. How often should I give him water?

I've just put him in his cage with lots of hay and he's not moving.

His medicine is Ranitidine.

when my piggies have needed syringe feeding I would do it every 2-3 hours just to keep, things moving regularly

OvO · 22/07/2019 00:19

Thank you.

Had intended staying up all night with him anyway so its just a matter of getting the food and water into him.

I suggest you get your guinea pig up to the vets and on the drip. He needs fluids to survive. Gi is a killer and your guinea pig sound critical. Sorry.

Crazybunnylady123 · 04/08/2019 20:21

Just saw the date of this thread. What was the outcome? Did the guinea pig survive? Flowers

OvO · 04/08/2019 22:16

He died. Sad
I fed him and gave him water every 2.5 hours (both via syringe) and got him to the vets in the morning. They were cautiously optimistic but he just went downhill so fast.
He was a pig in a million. Sad
