Spaying female bunnies?

So, I've bought a girl bunny :) and I'm hoping she'll be a 'sweetiepie; and not a 'grumpythump' but I was just wondering, has anyone found that spaying a grumpy/naughty female rabbit has helped with their temperament? Because I have a feeling that I read that it doesn't really affect temperament in the girls.

I know I would be wise to spay anyway seen as females can be prone to cancers ect… so may do it anyway but would do it BEFORE the 1 year mark if it would improve temperament considerably. Anyone have first-hand exp?

I didn't meet my girl before she was spayed, only after. She arrived in rescue as a stray, and was named after Avril Lavigne because she was very very punky! She would bite and was extremely defensive. She was spayed and is now an outgoing and friendly looney toon but no aggression in her whatsoever!

Yes spaying can massively improve temperament, hormones make them crazy.

Also either way you should have her spayed for 2 main reasons

  1. 80% of unspayed females die by the 5 years of age due to uterine cancer
  2. Rabbits are super sociable and should have company, male/female pairs are the best option
