Accidentally bought nuggets for dwarf rabbits

I’ve picked up the wrong bag of nuggets for my rabbits. Same flavour, but for junior and dwarf rabbits. They’re happily eating it this morning (mixed with the remaining normal nuggets). Do you think they’ll be ok? Anyone know if they’re massively different? It just says higher protein. I’m going away tomorrow for 3 days!

What, like.. chicken nuggets?

TeaStory · 05/05/2019 08:51

They’ll be absolutely fine, but keep mixing the old and new so the change isn’t too sudden.

Is it the protein content that's the issue ? There's about 3% higher in the J&D mix

When I had a very young piglet ,(Guinea) we gave him Alfalf hay which is higher in Calcium (so not for lardy adults) but even the Calcium difference in the pellets is >1%, and it would only be an issue over a long period of feeding.

How much quantity do you give him? Can you increase his hay and hopefully the mix of the new/old pellets will even out .

The little swine might not even eat the J&D pellets Grin

3 % difference isn't massive. I don't think it's as bad as when I accidentally bought rabbit pellets (Harringtons) thinking it was dry dog food in rabbit flavour.
In mitigation, Waitrose had put it on the end of an adjacent shelf, surrounded by other dog food. Not with guinea pig, bird or fish food, but slap in the middle of dog food, with a 25% off label.

The dog ate it quite happily for a few days till I realised, and didn't appear to suffer.

Thanks. The old nuggets ran out today. They get hay, straw and grass too, so I think I will ask the lady looking after them to just reduce the amount. They only get about a large eggcup. One is almost a dwarf anyway!

Their diet should be around 90% hay anyway, so there will be very little difference.

Ps, my dog would love that! One once managed to eat chicken corn, that was fun. She did pop up popcorn poop everywhere for two days. Luckily to no harm.
