Dominant female g. Pig

I have been concerned about my 2 female g. Pigs. One is like a barrel the other looking quite thin . So separated them . Thin one has put on over 1kg in 2 days. So clearly dominant female not letting other eat despite there always been dried food and plenty fruit and vegetables.

So obviously going to separate them for thin g.pig to gain weight.

Has anyone experienced this . They don’t appear to be fighting so don’t want to leave them isolated from each other indefinitely but also need to make sure thin one is getting enough food.

If they get on ok, then leave them together but make sure there is unlimited hay on the floor , then wherever the smaller pig is she can eat . You can put some ReadiGrass in for extra variety . Hay should be at least the body size per pig per day but unlimited is ideal. I used hay cookies when my GP7 injured her eye , takes them a bit longer to get through so keeps them busy .

The pellets could be in a couple of bowls far apart , same with water bottles .

You can feed them at cuddle time (I don't handfeed my pigs , I think personally it can make them snappy, but if it was a case of not being able to eat then I;d do it)

Weight loss and gain can be due to many things . Teeth for examle though if your pig has put weight on then her teeth sound fine !

Things like tumours and cysts can occur in females (especially if they haven't bred) might be worth checking over the bigger one , make sure it isn't just fat .

It would be a shame to split up a pair if they are happy .

What breed are they BTW?

Our smooths always ran to fat , our Rex boar weighed 3lb at his prime (more like a rabbit) and our Abby was teeny .

When I took them out on Sunday big one was literally twice the weight. Little bone was eating on lap looking desperately hungry not so today. They alway have hay , dried food and have 2 dishes. Skinny one drinks far more than big one.

I don’t want them separated so think I want to give skinny one a few more days and maybe a bit of separated time?

How much weight do you think the skinny one has put on? You said 1 kg, but it can't be that.
