Snakes and Small Pets

Hi,

I have a variety of animals, including rabbits (outside) and guineas (inside). I'd love to get a corn snake but had a middle-of-the-night panic that it would be a stupid idea what with having guineas in the house. They wouldn't be in the same room (snake wouldn't be able to see them) but I do put the guineas in the kitchen when I clean their cage, which is open-plan to the room where the snake would be. Still out of sight, but definitely within smell and sound distance.

Would knowing that there's prey (albeit oversized) nearby piss off a snake too much?

keeping a reptile in the kitchen is a bad idea (salmonella risk)

sorry, can't answer the guinnea pig question.

It's not a good idea. A corn snake that escaped could get in a guinea pig cage. It'd probably stress out both the snake and guinea pigs as they'd know each other were around I think - our guinea pigs are always wary when we get home if we've been stroking a dog.

My ex wanted to bring his 8ft long common boa home. I have two house cats.

He is an ex for many reasons and this is one of them

Thanks, everyone. I don't think the guineas would be too bothered, they've grown up with a cat around the place and they don't give her the time of day, nor do they bother if they smell dog on me. I'm more wary of angering the snake.

Oh well, I'll just have to wait til I can afford a bigger house!
