Guinea pig not gaining weight after dental

Advice please!
My five yr old boat was misdiagnosed by locum vet who clipped his incisors. 5 days later he is still not eating and has lost an alarming amount of weight. Regular vet books him in for op on spurs on molars and says he'll need syringe feeding after. That was last weds. He's still only eating grated fruit and veg, fighting madly against the syringe and feels completley emaciated. He is bright eyes and feels strong but so so thin. Is it normal to not be eating 5 days post op, he's not attempting normal food, and should be have gained weight yet (he hasnt) i am carrying on but I don't know if it's hopeless or I'm just expecting too much. I'm feeding 2 hrly but so much is going on and he's not gaining! Please reassure me.

How is your piggy doing?

I'm afraid I don't have any advice (not helpful). It sounds like you are trying your best to get food into him and if he's eating some food himself that's a good sign.

I would take him back to the vets if he's not improving.

Is he on metacam for pain relief? I would also take him back to vets.

I would agree , take him back to the vet , guinea-pigs are eating and poohing machines so if it stops , its not good.
He might have a little sore mouth or throat from his surgery . Or he might have a rough tooth still.

Is he dribbling? When you feed him, is he relishing it?

Those syringe feeds are a labour of love (we were feeding GO6 over the Christmas holidays , getting up in the night like you would with a baby!) It is time consuming and you need to go at their pace .
But they need to keep their digestive system ticking over so they don;t get stasis of the gut .
Don;t forget to give him extra Vit C , he won't be eating pellets at the moment .

Little middle aged boars are really lovely creatures .

Yes he is lovely. I went to the vet, and discussed him, it seems I’m doing everything ok and hopefully he will pick up. He is eating soaked pellets apple pear and grated carrot, he tried to eat a bit of broccoli earlier but not much went in. He is bright eyed and alert, fingers crossed all for major tim squeak.

Are you feeding him the weird Critical Care porridge? He'll need the fibre from that or something similar to keep his gut going.

The handy thing about guinea pigs is that they have this great big syringe-sized gap behind the front teeth. Insert (sawn-off) syringe of porridgy muck behind teeth, squirt at opposite cheek. In it goes.
