Anyone got experience of house bunnies

Hi we are looking to get a pair of bunnies which will have free run of our house.

We are preparing all of the cables with bunny safe coverings and intend to get a large hutch in the utility for night time/when they want to retreat etc

How did you house train your bunnies and do I need a stair gate to stop them hopping upstairs and potentially falling down them?

Any advice or tips would be very welcome please Smile

I know I'm very biased towards bunnies

My rabbits break the mould then - my tiny male is cleaner and friendlier.

I wouldn't have a sole rabbit- mine has been really happy since he got a friend, they groom and cuddle loads, even binky about together.

Mine live in a stable, they do pee loads and are a bit smelly.

How about going to a rescue and getting an established pair - they'd be able to point out a friendly pair and would already know their personalities.

I'm new to rabbits this year, I love them, they're fascinating, but they're not particularly easy pets, my cats are cleaner and friendlier.

I have a fabulous house bunny.
He was a rescue who would flinch and growl if you tried to touch him but now sleeps in my bed, lets me pick sleep out of his eyes, follows me everywhere, loves cuddles, and is just an absolute delight.
He has loads of his own toys so chews them rather than our stuff, is litter trained aside from the odd poo.
He has free run of the whole house.
He is amazing, I love him.
However, it takes a lot of time and patience for them to trust you and build a relationship with you and this must be done on their terms. They can be amazing pets but to look after them properly you must be very dedicated- they are very delicate and need a lot of special care.
You will need to monitor their poo and learn their behaviours because they hide illness (being prey animals) and can develop fatal conditions quickly.
I've had buns all my life and can talk happily about them all day! Best animals.

My bunny is 4 now and she loves trying to sneak upstairs whenever we arent watching. She uses her tray for toileting but will have accidents if startled ! She has bitten twice but both before being spayed. She will chew anything ! And doesn't seem to suffer ill effects from multiple electrocutions ! But we love her although the dogs not keen. Q
