My 4yo guinea-pig developed a massive lump (in the other thread) , took her to the vet expecting it to be an abcess and to have it lanced and antibiotics.
Not how it turned out Sad It was lanced but not pus , it was a growth. . As it was in her neck, all the blood vessels (jugular and carotid) and given she was middle-aged , I had to think "Is surgery the best option?" and hand on heart the answer is "No it isn't"

I have no bloody clue how this lump got so big so quick. The vet said it may have bled into the mass making it suddenly big?

She was eating and poohing right to the end , so I know she didn't suffer . She went peacefully at the Vet with her long term cage mate at her side.

These little animals burrow their way into your heart and when they leave you they rip a bit of it out. That ripped space is best filled with another guinea-pig .
We have GP6 and GP7 still who are now a bit "Eh?"

Goodbye little piggie . The well trodden path to The Rainbow Bridge welcomes a new little guest .

Awful news Flowers
Be assured you made the best decision although heartbreaking to make
RIP GP8 😞

I remembered to arrange her nicely after struggling to find a box to fit GP4 (GP4 died in the cage with her little legs stretched out behind her . I had to use a Lock&Lock breadbox!)

She's resting in the C&C with GP7 and next to GP6 but in a basket just in case GP7 tries to wash her .

Tomorrow I'll buy her a box and line it with her leaves then she'l wait in the Pighouse till a hole is dug.

And I will clean her bedding for the last time . I can still be on the Pig Duty Rota for GP6&GP7

I have no guinea-pigs of my own now

Sorry to read your news 70 . I haven’t been a regular on here as my youngest daughter’s health is exhausting so I’m guessing I’m quite behind with the times. Are you now boarless? Sad

Shamrock parsley for the remaining piggies

So sorry for your loss 70. I’m sure she has a wonderful life with you and your troop. Flowers

No, we still have the boar , it was my little sow who pottered Bridgewards.

Flowers for your DD

Sorry to hear this 70. At least it was quick for her. How is remaining girl? Will she be able to pal up with your boy?

We're planning a Wedding next week (it's half term for DD ) . GP7 has to 'miss' her first though before she'll accept GP6 as a very inadequate substitute.

Actually when we tried before she was more tolerant of him, it was GP8 who didn't .
So it might work?

I'd say they're getting too old for any shenanigans Wink

Are you and DD getting new hats? Wink. Don't forget the parsley bouquet.

I moved GP6 into one side of the C&C cage (I put a divide in and changed all the bedding) so they can see each other easily.
They touched noses while we cuddled them, lots of purring going on from both. We need to do a complete from the beginning bond .

There will be a Wedding Cake and DD and I might treat ourselves to some new tops or something, I think giving them the Pre-Bonding Baths might ruin any hats .
