Adopting one rat...

I'm looking at adopting a rat. He was given to the charity because he didn't get on with the other rats the owner had. It is suggested that he stays living alone now.

I'm happy to do this and the rat would gets lots of attention. But all the advice online suggests that rats need company.

Is he going to be ok on his own?!

Ideally, no. Some rats need to be though, I've had two loners in the past as both had epilepsy and a whole host of issues relating to that despite our best efforts to keep them with others.

Male rats can get aggressive, has he been neutered? Many people find that helps significantly with aggressive boys and that they can safely reintroduce them to others, certainly helped with our sod when he started getting aggressive.

Thanks for the advice. After finding out more about him, it looks like he needs a more experienced owner than me.

So I'm waiting on adopting a pair of rats now instead.
