Escaped hamster :(

DH changed the water and accidentally left the cage door open, obviously hamster took the opportunity and has escaped Sad he could’ve gone missing any time within a 12 hour period and has now potentially been gone for 35 hours.

As soon as I realised he was gone i spent 3 hours looking with no luck so I put several bowls of water and food and scattered treats to lure him out. Before we went to bed last night to put flour around all the doors and his bowls so we can see what room he’s in and set up a trap.

The flours not been disturbed and food and waters notr been touched. Pretty much confirmed my fear that he’s managed to get outside :( how likely are we to find him? And what can we do to
Lure him back from outside?

He could have got out of the original room you had him in and be hidden in any of the other rooms by now..unless you left the front or back door open and unattended then I doubt he is outside yet...

Does he have a favourite treat or toy ?...you may need to leave stuff out in each part of the house including hallways and see if any of them are touched if they are then that is the room he is likely hidden...

Do you have any hidden spaces, like for example , around a fireplace? those kind of spots are top runaway hamster locations.
If it is any comfort, our hamster came back after 3 days, having been in the house the whole time. x

When I was young, I lost my hamster in the same way. A couple of weeks later my elder brother found him happily nested in the back of his sock drawer. Several old socks, and a number of precious photo's had provided the bedding. He wasn't best pleased. The amazing thing is Hammy lived quite happily all that time without apparent food or water.

Lost my hamster when I was a child, it was under the house (no idea how it got here there). My dad lifted the floorboards but couldn't get it. We put its little house under the floor boards with loads of food and in the morning it was asleep in its little house!!

Sorry about saying "house" so many times in such a short post 😂 Just read it back to myself!

Years ago my child's Hamster escaped. He went missing for three months.

I was having a wee in the middle of the night and his little head popped up through a tiny hole in the wooden floor boards. He was very thin! The hole was tiny, you would never think that a hamster could fit down such a small hole.

I looked after a friend's hamster when she went on holiday. It was a few years ago
She didn't tell me it could get out of its cage. It escaped in the night and I thought the dog had eaten it
I told her it died. It started a horrible chain of lies. She wanted to see where I had buried it so we had tears over the 'burial ground' Blush
About 3 months later I heard scratching and the bloody hamster emerged from a built in cupboard. I couldn't claim reincarnation so I had to get a cage and all the stuff for it and keep a secret hamster
I had it for a couple of years and was riddled with guilt. It was a relief when it finally died

Very unlikely I'm afraid. Our son had a hamster and it escaped in similar fashion. Looked high and low for it moving furniture, left out food for it but nothing. I'm pretty sure it climbed up a gap in the upstand of the kitchen units and from there probably fell into the floorboards poor thing.

Mine did this once when I was younger. Turned out that she had chewed a hole in the wall underneath my cabin bed in the corner! My mum heard her chewing in the night and found her.
Sorry not much help I know, but hopefully gives you other options to explore
