Where do you get baby guineas from??

We’ve had GPs in the past but not for a few years, but the pig-sized hole in our family needs filling. But where do we get them from?? No rescues near us have babies, and I do want little ones. I won’t buy from P@H. I’ve tried googling breeders but can’t find any. Some for sale on gumtree, which I know is a massive no for puppies, but not sure if it’s OK for pigs? Any suggestions?

Hi.
I ended up asking in a local pet shop and she had the numbers of a couple of people who rescue to a small extent but also breed them.
You could try that.

I also found one on Facebook.

Good luck

Local rescues do get in youngsters, pregnant sows or unwanted litters, from time to time - try any rescues nearby who take in small furries.

Look up the British Cavy Council. Then choose the breed you are interested in.

Our first 2 boys were Dutch from a reputable breeder . Pet quality ie they didn’t match the show standard. Smartie had a brown foot and a pink patch on his ear but he was a very handsome piggy. And as for Todd he was a funny little runt with a massive personality and only had Dutch markings on his facing (white bum). They were great pets especially Todd aka Old Boy and lived good long lives.

Our next 2 were from a pet shop. Rosie sadly passed young as she didn’t recover from a major operation. Shai lived to more than 5 years , was very healthy only declining inher last few months.

Our last 2 were from a rescue and we have no clue about their heritage. Coco quickly developed foot trouble. Millie came to us with water retention and has a slow growing lump but is the longest lived of all of them, she is now 7 years and 5 months and still going strong with the occasional health scare.

In summary you stand a slightly better chance of long life from a breeder and it’s really pot luck.

Mine were all adults except GP3 who came to Rescue from a breeder . He was 6 weeks old .

They had some younger piggies but the sows tend to get reserved very quickly and they were too young to be 100% sure if they were M/F

Also they were with their Mum and our adult GP (who GP3 bonded with) would've been a tad inapropriate with one of the tiny babies.

My DD who had only handled adults adored her piglet. But I have to say there are advantages to large lazy adults (not having razor sharp claws for one, having good bladder control is also a bonus) Grin
