Little buggers

So after my bunny died I decided against the advice on here to get two little Roborovski hamsters. Did my research and bought a hamster mansion cage without bars, cuddly snuggly beds etc. Bought two females.

I was watching them last night and noticed that one was loads bigger than the other one which was weird. Grabbed one of them (They are literally mental little kamakazi creatures who run at the speed of light and like to catapult themselves onto the floor from about 6ft if they get half the chance) And lo and behold... it's a boy.

Managed to grab the other one but it wouldn't stay still long enough for me to get a proper look and was ferociously trying to nibble my finger off however a very quick squimy glance and I think that one is a female.

Now they've started scrapping and fighting a lot and will have to separate them and the only temporary container I have is the recycling box... so one of them will have to go in there for just now.

Plus I felt bad if one had a bigger cage than the other so that was another £70 on new cage, cosy new bed etc etc.

AND THEN DP pointed out that the (maybe) female might well be pregnant so I should not be disturbing her but I can't grab the one who is definitely male without disturbing the other one (who does look suspiciously like she's building a nest although I could just be panicking) and I SHOULD HAVE JUST GOT ABOTHER RABBIT.

Not really wanting any advice just sharing my stressful weekend over two tiny hamsters 😂

OH and I said I would look after my sister's Syrian whilst she's on holiday for a week so there's going to be three cages around my tiny flat plus maybe but really hopefully not tiny little jelly bean babies plus two dogs AHHHH

Ahhhh no advice I'm afraid but virtual soothing hand-patting.

Many years ago we got 2 female guinea-pigs , one got fatter.......
Someone (who kept small animals) said to my Dad "Leave the male in he won't harm the babies" . No , they don't harm them, they just rush off and create more !

Bought a lone female (double checked) we had 2 sows at home. She got fatter ........ already pg , single female piglet.

Bought 2 mice .....female. One got fatter ....... yes.

Can you get the male cordoned off while he's eating? Get a thin book and make a 'wall' to trap him. I'm not sure if smaller rodents are more likely to eat young (guinea-pigs very rarely do but they are born fully formed not jellybaby ) . There's a risk they can mate against .
