It's definitely spring - the pigs are out!

It's hit 16 degrees today in the tropical northwest so the Fernie pigs are out in their run for the first time this year. It's half on grass and half on the path (with a nice soft towel covering on the path) so they've somewhere dry to relax.

Madampig has completely forgotten grass and is hiding in a pig loo in case it attacksShock. Gingerpig hadn't forgotten and got stuck in mowing but he had forgotten about squirrels and pigeons, all of whom regard the pigs as some kind of Entertainment and are watching him avidly!

They won't be out long. First time out is only 30 minutes to get acclimatised and do they don't get bloat from stuffing themselves when they're not used to grass. Still it's nice they're out as it means it's really spring.

Mine went out for the first time last Thursday:

First out was DarkBaby. She (and LightBaby) had been out a few times at the end of last year, but she'd obviously forgotten. She froze, then ran to a corner and froze again. I put a box in but she just stayed in her corner.

Second out was OldGirl. As soon as her mouth hit grass she started munching. DarkBaby remained in her corner.

Last was LightBaby. She ran to see her sister. I turned round to put something on the line, and when I looked back 5 secs later there was no sign of DarkBaby. I had a momentary panic that she'd got through the C+C holes (was a real worry when they went out last year as they were so small) but then realised she had finally made it into the box. The three of them spent the next few hours under the box and didn't object when I took them back in. Obviously, the whole experience was highly traumatic, used lots of energy and thus they needed a huge feed on their return inside!

They went out again on Sunday, much to their disgust! Not only that but, due to LightBaby being covered in mites I gave them a bath beforehand. You all need to report me to the SSPCA, RSPCA and the police for animal cruelty. Baths and expeditions outside should not be allowed! They're hoping I've learnt my lesson and will leave them be from now on!

Such crueltyGrin. Poor things, forced outside to mow the lawn against their will, while you just laze around relaxing putting washing out. Then you bath them, purely for your own amusement! It's going to take a lot of intensive parsley therapy to recover.

Indeed it will! Luckily for them it's been raining today, so they won't be going outside today. They'll need a few years to recover, anyway!

When we got GP3 (as a tiny 6 week piglet) DH quickly wrapped their outdoor run in more mesh . The bars are close spaced and they don't have foldable skeletons like mice !

Roll on to adulthood he got to 3lb adult weight (Rex) he could've got his paw up to his wrist through the gaps but nothing more .

My Residents are judgily waiting for the grass to dry . DH mowed the upper bit of lawn, they've got the rough weedy bit (dandelions and clover Grin ) .
