Should I bring my guinea pig indoors?

We have one guinea pig and have had him for about 5 years. He had a brother but he sadly died about 3 years ago. This pig has never slept inside. He comes inside for cuddles with DD every day, other than that he's "free range" on our balcony.

It's now very very cold here - he has a little house in the upper level of his hutch which we stuff with hay every night and I'm concerned he's going to literally freeze to death tonight. However, I gather it's not good for them to come in suddenly to a warmer environment. He is VERY fluffy, I assume as a result of being outside for so long.

The other issue is we have a greyhound, so it's not going to be a happy arrangement. Also no garage, otherwise I'd stick him there.

you cant bring them inside unless you are going to keep them inside for some time. they dont like the change in temperature.

It is the indoor/outdoor temperture change that is bad for them and the damp that this weather brings.
Dry cold they can cope with better if they're protected but damp gets them in the chest they are prone to respiratory issues.

Lots of hay is a good insulator but guineas are manky little souls who like to eat/pee/pooh/sleep in their haybed.

One of our boars (GP2) took 5 years off my life by 'rolling' as he walked ( OMG , is he ill, broken something, overnight onset of scurvy?)
No he was stiff from just parking in the hay , not moving till forced .

My piggies are in at the moment , I keep looking at the forecast but it isn't good enough to let them into the Pighouse. They seem quite happy indoors being spoiled and chattered to though .

My 2 boys are happy enough with a well covered hutch, heat pad and a bedroom filled with straw and hay. Where they are is pretty sheltered and they have plenty of munchies.

If I brought them in I would have to keep them in until it warms up. And we have a whippet with a high prey drive so a recipe for disaster as with dcs in the house I couldnt 100% guarantee they wouldn't let the dog where they would be kept. Plus our house is the warmest in the world so I think they would struggle more with the heat.
