Dwarf hamsters fighting

We got two female dwarf russian hamsters a month ago. They have been perfectly happy, but this last week they started fighting. One of them is seriously bullying the other, and now I've noticed her paws have blood on them.

We got the hamsters, cage toys etc at the same time, asked for advice and the shop assistant was happy to send us home with that setup(we added extra house, wheel and feeding bowl),but now i wonder if the cage might be too small.

Is it worth it buying a bigger cage in the hope that more space might stop the fighting or separate them?

@TheQueenOfWands we had a fish go missing. Looked and don’t think it jumped. If he got eaten, then others should’ve been as well . Not in the fish tank. Still no idea where it went.

I've had to separate numerous pairs of these supposedly social little creatures.

They're bloody adorable though so I always ended up buying more and just having a house full of cages!

Well she is definitely cute for such an evil little thing.

Getting two cages was the best thing to do. We had the same situation, only thing was they couldn't be handled either, as they bit everyone in the end. The dwarf ones in my opinion are not the nicest. I've seen lovely friendly, docile , and bigger hamsters who are much more lovely pets. The dwarf ones put me off the lot of them as ours just ended up both being aggressive even the submissive one. Sorry. I hope you have better luck.

There was recently a post about this on one of my Facebook groups. Endless tales of hamster cannibalism. You have done the right thing.
