I want to get a pair of guineapigs. Are two females better than two males?

I had females before.
Two males I thought might fight

Hi. I am new ish to Guinea pigs but ended up with two boars from a rescue. Just babies but brothers.
From what I have read as long as they have plenty of room they should be ok.

Mine are about 6 months old now and so far just gone kcassional but if rumbling.

I also read that sometimes two of everything helps so they can't argue over things.

Also it can help if one is older or larger (one of mine is much bigger than the other).

Someone more knowledgable will come along soon I'm sure

I have always had pairs of females but two boars should be fine - they fight over girls so if it's just the two of them, it's ok. Like someone said above, two of everything stops them from squabbling!

I've always had girls, two at a time. Usually an older one and a youngster - simply as they never die conveniently together.
No problems once they are settled. Of my current two there isn't a dominant one so they just pottle along together.
We are out a lot in the day so a pair works as they keep one another company.

However, there are some seriously cute gentleman pigs on here and I am sorely tempted......😃

I had three boars and they got along fine. There was some humping to begin with (there's not enough brain bleach to get the sight of their threesome out my head!!!) but it would be one humping one day then it would be their turn the next to be humped, so it wasn't as though one was always being picked on. That stopped after a week or so and then they were fine. No fights whatsoever. They were even fine after one had an ear infection which had permanent consequences: hyperactivity and an inability to run in a straight line, which meant he was forever crashing in to his brothers. They never retaliated.

They were a LOT more active than my girls have been, with less fear - they were forever trying to escape so that they could run around the whole house, and thought my cat was their best friend, much to her confusion!

I would go for girls. simply because I don't fancy cleaning out the males anal glands.
