Rescue a little GP to live with two bonded Rex boars?

Help!
We have Rex boars about 6 months and brothers and well bonded in a 6x2 c and c cage.

Just seen a tiny boar all alone. He's lived alone all the time it's thought but not much info on him. He's just so scared in the cage he's in as it's quite open and people keep walking past him. He's two and so cute.

I know the chances are they won't ever bond. Do you think I could split the cage and maybe get upstairs for them and they can be neighbours? He just seems to need peace and quiet and we can give him that.

Would it upset my two just to have him next door? What are the chances of them bonding at all? Has anyone managed it?

I want to rescue him but don't want to upset the boys we already have.

And here it is, minus hay and fresh stuff. It will never be this clean and tidy again

That looks great! He's got so much room! He'll be a very happy little chappy indeed!

So will it be tomorrow, or Thursday? Can't wait, either way!

EastMidsGPs · 13/09/2017 07:58

He's one lucky piggie Smile

FernieB · 13/09/2017 11:01

Isn't it so easy to keep pet homes clean when they're not in them! My pigs cage would look immaculate if it wasn't for them.

He's a lucky lucky pig to have such a great home - if he only knew, he'd be so excited.

DudeHateshisCarryOut · 13/09/2017 11:41

I totally agree, FernieB. It's rare that I manage to get photos of my lot without a load of poo everywhere. There's about a 5 second breathing space when I put them back into a newly-cleaned cage but after that I've had it!

baddyface · 13/09/2017 16:11

He's here at last!

He has had a quick cuddle and is now hiding in his house and being given some peace and quiet.

He has grown a lot since we last saw him!

Awwwww! What a handsome lad! I'm so pleased he's finally arrived home!

Hazel, Blaise and Felicity send greetings!

Thanks for letting me know. And for the photo!

Have the other two senses his arrival? x

Sorry, that was from me. I'd forgotten I'd finally reverted back to my usual name!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2017 19:25

Ooh I've caught up.... he's gorgeous Grin Like a little badger.

DD and I smile at the Pighouse when it's freshly cleaned. Next morning it looks like Armaggedon !

baddyface · 13/09/2017 21:16

Great photo Dude. Cuties!

Well so far I don't THINK the big guys have noticed him although I'm not sure how I would know? They are pretty lazy so not sure they would be bothered to do anything as long as he's nowhere near their food and comfy beds.

The new boy has been spotted a couple of times if we sneaked in. My 8 year old tells me he has sniffed her hand.

He has eaten his fresh veg and a LOT of hay while we were out.

Think we will leave him alone till tomorrow evening and see if we can tempt him out with some treats.

Oh and he has managed poo all over the cage too Hmm

Aww, he's gorgeous.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/09/2017 22:23

Sounds like it's going well. Your doing better than me - my two wee ones would run a mile before sniffing my hand. I'm very, very scary, you see!

They've discovered the unfinished loft. Was going to build a ramp up, but so far it's just a layer of c and c grids, with nothing on them. Discovered F had climbed onto a box and thence the grids. Was worried about her hurting a leg falling through a gap so have put card down, but am thinking about building a whole interior wall of c&c rather than just one end, so I don't need to cramp the lower level. Plus I could pick it all up to clean. Dunno.

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 15/09/2017 09:34

Sorry, I keep forgetting to NC back!

How's the wee boy doing? Did you manage to tempt him out with treats last night? One of my wee ones actually came right in front of me when I put the food in this morning, when I had door wide open. She ran off as soon as I moved, mind, but it's all progress.

baddyface · 15/09/2017 14:57

See Dude I do like the challenge of modifying their homes! Seems yours are keeping you in your toes.

He's doing ok thanks. I got him out yesterday for a quick cuddle but I wouldn't say he enjoyed it.

My 5 year old had a cuddle today and he was making happy noises and looked very comfy! He still legs it when he hears anyone and he's faster than the Rex's we have.

He's also a pretty fussy eater when it comes to veg.

I'm assuming they all know each other is there now but I don't think I will ever feel confident to introduce them all without cage in between them as I've heard three boys is the worst number and I don't want to spoil the bond my pair have already.

Here is a bit more of him. He's a lovely colour. And so soft. But much bigger than when we first saw him!

Oh he is gorgeous😍

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/09/2017 15:39

He is SUCH a darling! He seems much calmer than my two. They don't like cuddles either!

I don't mind the idea of modifying the cage but I know it's going to take time, which I really don't have this weekend. And having another layer of stuff to wash is not appealing, since, between the guineas and the rabbits I already do two loads a week and don't really want to have to do another! But I do need to sort something. The way the cage is at the moment too much space is being taken up by supports for the loft, so I really do have to redo it so that it's just being supported around the outside. Hopefully, if I manage it properly and get a ramp fixed, Hazel will be able to go up there too. Fingers crossed!

baddyface · 16/09/2017 20:47

Well we have a confident little piggie!
We just cleaned out his cage and he popcorned all over it! Then did a huge jump and started looking for ways to escape (I suspect!). Then he was seen standing on his wooden hide and his box looking up!

I've covered the whole cage with a fleece pegged to the top but think I will need to buy a lid (it's c and c) or more grids to increase the height. And quick!

My Rex are much bigger and they never even looked like trying to escape crossed their mind.

Tee hee! He definitely sounds like my old boys! When I first had them they were in a dog cage, so there was only an inch lip at the door. Feeding them was fun, as I had two hands but three boys, so one of them would invariably climb over my lap as soon as I opened the door and escape. I could only manage to restrain two of them at a time, you see. DP was highly bemused to walk into the lounge and see one of them stride towards him with not a care in the world. He should have been in the bedroom, not the lounge, but it was all the same to him!

Glad he's doing so well. I'd definitely put a lid on, I've seen a video of a guinea leap the c+c grids!

I'm so pleased he's home and happy. It must feel like heaven to him, after where he's come from!

baddyface · 18/09/2017 23:03

Sounds like I have a lively one like you had then!

I've seen that video too!

I have ordered more grids and will increase the height. He's so hard to catch I think a lid would make it impossible!

We lost him already once. Raced off my daughter's knee and spent twenty mins behind a bookshelf. I'm sure he was laughing at us!

I'm sure he was laughing at you! Tee hee! He definitely has a glint of something in his eye. Bet he spends his days planning on what he's going to do next!

The story of the bookcase reminds me of a rabbit I had. When she arrived the hutch was ready but the run wasn't so, feeling sorry for her being cooped up and thinking we could do some bonding I took her into the kitchen. She ran around for 5 mins then found a hole in the kickboard and ran under there! That was about midday. 7 the next morning DP eventually gets fed up so removes the kickboard from the other side, at which point she gets excited there's another room to explore and quite happily comes bounding out!

Sounds like he's incredibly happy with you! How miserable he must have been shut up in a small cage. Poor baby! See, he had all that time to plan adventures!

Thanks for all the photos btw, he's very handsome!
