FleekyPig and ShinyPig continued to fight though both still loved CurlyPig. I had to move Shiny into his own hutch next door and have been speed-dating him with older boars from the local Animal Rescue to find him a friend and yesterday HugePig moved in with Shiny Grin

HugePig used to live in a pub garden and weighs 1350g Shock I think he and Shiny will be lovely friends (but Fleeky is livid and keeps shouting at HugePig from next-door - he is such a psycho it's lucky he has Curly to calm him down!)

How lovely!
I also adopted a young boar yesterday (approx 3-4 months)
I have an 8month old boar who lost his brother at Easter. I'd put off getting another pig, but after piggy sitting his Mum, Aunt and Cousin last week I realised that he needs some company.

Any introduction tips would be appreciated. They are currently chatting to each other across the room.

FauxFox your guineas mumnet names are great, makes me really want to see pictures please Grin

Huge Pig is an impressive size. Do you think the customers fed him all the salad garnish from their pub grub?

Maybe move the hutches apart if Fleeky is being a bit freaky Wink

FauxFox · 17/08/2017 15:23

You need to make everything smell neutral Green so give them both a bath in the same shampoo and put them in a large run or space with a bunch of food. I did my boys on fresh grass in the garden. They chattered at first and then HugePig spent a couple of hours chasing and humping poor ShinyPig to assert his dominant status Shock

I left them in together supervised (towel handy to throw on if they started to fight) for an hour or so day 1, day 2 they were calmer so I just stayed nearby and got on with other stuff, day 3 only a tiny chatter then they hung out together in the run happily for most of the day and i cleaned out the hutch to make it neutral and they moved in together that night! My only other tip is to make sure there is nowhere in the hutch or run that a pig can be cornered - a lot of igloos/huts only have one entrance which is not good for newly paired boars - tubes, tunnels and shelters are great instead Smile

I will look for some pics...HugePig is massive!

And here are Fleeky and Curly (it's his whiskers that are Curly not his fur - that's more fuzzy, he's a Rex)

Lovely pigtures- Hugepig has clearly settled in nicely. He is a hefty size but will have to eat a lot more to compete with my old Smoothpig who regularly weighed in at 1500g in his prime!

It's great that all your pigs have friends now.

dietcokeandwine · 17/08/2017 17:28

Oh they are gorgeous FauxFox! Lovely piggies.

Both my boars (one now sadly no longer with us) were around the 1300-1400g Mark in their prime. I do love a hefty pig Grin

I have a cream agouti girl who is very similar to your Fleeky too...such a lovely breed.

Enjoy them!

dietcokeandwine · 17/08/2017 17:31

Interestingly (just having re read your OP) our agouti girl can be a bit psycho too. She went for our surviving boar like nothing I'd ever seen when I tried to bond her with him. Feisty doesn't even begin to describe it. She looks utterly angelic but behaves so very differently Grin

EastMidsGPs · 17/08/2017 21:33

Our now departed Squeak was an agouti and boy did she have attitude by the bucket load.
Some days she'd be fine and others DH would need to wear huge gloves to get her from the hutch.
She did once bite the vet very hard. Other days she was sweetness and light. DH.used to joke she was affected by the moon.

Lots of new piggies .. it is great to see and hear of them being so happy.

FauxFox · 18/08/2017 07:10

I love them all Grin so pleased Shiny won't be lonely now and that we can give lovely gentle HugePig a happy home Smile

My friend and I are slowly writing a children's book about her labradoddle and a gp called Betty ... (the franchise will revival Peppa Pig once established😂😂)

I now thinking there is room in the stories for a boy gp as well 😉

fortifiedwithtea · 18/08/2017 09:13

FauxFox I love that the pic of HugePig and Shiny needs no explanation. It's obvious who is who Grin All 4 are gorgeous guineas.

Greenrabbit · 18/08/2017 09:41

They are all beautiful. I love Huge pig, I hope they all live happily together.

Thanks for the advice. Newpig is still very nervous, he hasn't been handled much. I think I will start introductions next weekend.

I'm slightly worried now as newpig is an agouti! Olderpig is a 1200g Dutch (slightly dim, but very sweet and gentle)

EastMidsGPs · 18/08/2017 10:48

'HugoHugePig' has been added to the list of characters in our book 😉

FauxFox · 18/08/2017 11:53

Oh HugePig will be honoured East - i expect he will demand his share of the royalties in carrot tops Grin

Ahhh gorgeous boys , Grin there's just something so snuggly about boars.

Our biggest pig GP3 weighed in at 1.4kg at the vets when he was neutered, the vet was impressed at him (he was solid muscle no fat, big Rex boy). He was a "Lemon Agouti" (sounds ver' ver' snazzy)

With boars , they need their Get Outta My Face Space.
Our boars GP1/GP2 then GP1/GP3 didn't snuggle together like the boars would with sows. But they needed to know the other one was there.

YY to neutral territory, everything smelling Pig neutral (white vinegar is good) and a bonding bath .
Then tonnes of food and keep a close watch. (We use a paddling pool or a pen on the kitchen floor. Clean sheet or newspaper on the floor)
