How much fresh food in 'summer' for GPs?

New to GPs. We have two young boars (about six months).

Until the last few weeks they haven't been outside much (indoor cage) as I wanted to get them slowly used to grass.
But on days like today they are out from around 10-4 ish.

Usually they squeak at me for fresh veggies first thing in the morning and get about half a cups worth.
Then they get the same amount after tea.
But when they have been munching grass all day should they have that much fresh food or do I count the grass as fresh food?

what do your pigs have in a typical day?

I give mine a little less compared to winter and they are out 9-7 most days in the summer. It depends what's in the fridge or growing in the garden, but about half a cup twice a day sounds about right, along with dried food and hay.

Ahhhh you're falling for the "if we wheeeek and look starved, she'll feed us" trick Grin they are impossible to resist with those eyes .

As am ongoing (winter+summer) unlimited hay . You might want to put it in a rack for summer to stop them overheating.
Mine will eat ReadiGrass from a rack (but not hay ) .
Pellets+water.

If they have that they won't starve no matter what they tell you Grin

Mine were out from 11am - 8pm today so they've gone to bed with their dry foods and a sweetcorn cob each cage to pick at.

Keep an eye on their pooh , if they seem a bit soft, cut back. If its hot give extra cucumber and celery.
I use dog bowls (shallow) they get 4-5 veg choices maybe a handful per pig split am/pm if there's no grass.

Are your pigs showing any food preferences? They can be fussy - you;ll see the favourites vanish ( romaine or parsley here) and the Last Resort Veg (kale) if it will stop their bums from slamming shut. "Oh if I must, I don't like kale but I'll waste away and my bum will close forever" Hmm

Mine love kale! Carrots is their LRV.

Sorry I do also give them hay at all times (although they hardly seem to eat it) and readigrasa and dry food.

Thanks for all the answers.

They used to LOVE a corn on the cob but now then their noses up at that and red cabbage.

They love cucumber and green beans the most so far. I have a pot outside growing a few GP friendly herbs (forgotten which ones!) and some lavender. They do like a spot of those. And the lavender improves their smell Smile

Think I might cut back a little in summer. They certainly poo enough for me to keep check of that Hmm
