It's too small. As other have already said on your other thread.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 05/05/2017 15:37

As already said on your other thread, its way too small and frankly cruel.

You need to get a fishtank for cheap - easy to clean and very large.
Also there's no bars that bedding can be kicked through.

Its still way too small.

As I posted on your other thread (not sure why you think you'd get different responses just by starting the same thread in another section)......

Both the Habitrail Crystal and the Habitrail Mini 40cm x 25cm x 25cm.

The recommended minimum cage size for dwarf hamsters is 80cm x 50cm x 35cm. Note, that's minimum.

Those cages are too small. Good Amazon reviews don't magically make them an appropriate size Hmm

StarryIllusion · 05/05/2017 16:50

As everyone said on your other thread. Far too small. Both of them. Cruelty to animals but clearly you don't care and frankly I don't know why you are getting one as you have no regard for the poor thing's welfare. And for the fourth time a baby dwarf will easily escape through those bars and good luck to it, I will be cheering it on

rightsaidfrederickII · 05/05/2017 20:09

Both are far too small, as others have said.

The Zooplus Alaska is suitable www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/hamster_cages/hamster_cages/284288 (84 x 48.5 x 44 cm (L x W x H); £32.99)

The Zooplus Barney is also a good option www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/hamster_cages/hamster_cages/189303?rrec=true (100 x 54 x 45 cm (L x W x H); £49.99)

Anything less and you are committing cruelty to animals. Just because a cage is made and sold, it doesn't mean it's suitable.

Also bear in mind that if you intend to keep a pair of dwarves, they can be prone to territorial fighting. They need no shelves, no tubes, and two of everything else (wheels, hides, etc.). Dwarf hybrids (aka Russian dwarves) are prone to a variety of health complaints, particularly diabetes and kidney failure.

Oh, and hamsters are not suitable pets for children, as they are nocturnal and only wake up when the kids are going to bed. Dwarves also have the added disadvantage that they're too fast to handle (even I, as an adult, struggle to safely handle my rescue dwarf because she's so fast - who came to me because her original child owner got bored of her)

That last link wouldnt be ok for dwarves like robos. They can get through any wired cage. The local pet shop tried them out in all the cages and the only escape proof cage was a Duna.

bruffin · 05/05/2017 20:14

Sorry meant neither of the zooplus cages would be suitable for robos.

Faez · 05/05/2017 20:37

All these cages look tiny! My friend did the second hand fish tank thing and had great fun changing the set up and building new obstacles. I never bought a brand new cage, can pick them up for next to nothing at car boots, just give them a good scrub.

rightsaidfrederickII · 05/05/2017 20:38

rI have a friend with 2 robos in the Alaska (9mm bar spacing) without issues, and the Barney has 7mm bar spacing, so it's even narrower. Very small, young dwarves may present an issue, but from what I've heard it isn't widespread.

However, you're right in saying that the following cages would be suitable for a dwarf
Duna Multy (wouldn't want to go any smaller than this) www.portonaquapet.co.uk/-M36261?gclid=Cj0KEQjwxbDIBRCL99Wls-nLicoBEiQAWroh6l0etjMVtXuAuRX8pLL5xU2l3YdI16CDaolHKZt-ZdIaAq9o8P8HAQ

Duna Maxi Duna Multy www.portonaquapet.co.uk/-M58956?gclid=Cj0KEQjwxbDIBRCL99Wls-nLicoBEiQAWroh6tNSpSVgmXrcYqVM05QNR0dcEbNN8F1-JSe1ngJSzFQaAkXO8P8HAQ

The Mini Duna, however, is too small as a permanent cage

The Ikea Detolf is also a popular option for making a DIY tank-style hamster cage, though you may also want to add a lid www.ikeahackers.net/2015/05/easy-detolf-dwarf-hamster-cage.html

(PS sorry for typos, my Syrian ran across the keyboard several times while I was trying to post!)

Roborovskis will buggeroffski.

flowersareblooming · 05/05/2017 20:59

I own a Netherlands Dwarf Rabbit.

He's a little guy, but we've given him this cage.

He loves it.
