Y'know when you look in your guinea-pigs cage , what do you really NOT want to see there.

High on the list has to be blood stained pee patches.

This morning (our guineas had puppy pads and fleeces last night with a pile of hay in the sleeping area) the puppy pads had 6-7 fresh blood stained patches Sad

GP4 hadn;t shown any symptoms, no squealy hunchy peeing, no drips of blood, no light bleed. This was out of the blue full on.
We'd had to give her a bum dip on Saturday as she was a bit manky, but no blood in the wash.

So: whooshed her off to the Guinea Vet (with GP6 as company) and now she has antibiotics (suspect cystitis) but possible bladder stone.
(DH suggested she might've passed it already)
She did a couple of bloody pees in the Pighouse, but the pee she passed in the Vets was clear.

She's happy in herself, eating and bossing Bert round .

Only thing I can think of that might've set her off is I changed their food (I didn't think of this till I was driving home). Still Burgess Excell but its a new flavour (they've been scoffing it too)
I'll search out the original one and change back.

Poor girl Sad

We've brought GP4 and GP6 in tonight , I noticed she looked a bit 'sunken' this morning (hard to describe but just like her face was a bit fur-puffed and her eyes looked less 'popping out' than usual)
We gave her a warm bum dip to clear away any sticky debris , she accepted the bath but didn't protest loudly like she normally does.

I'm sure (as I can be) that she's not in pain , she's still sweet tempered but quiet. Eating well and good pooh output.

DD said to me "she's going isn't she?" and I think she's right.
GP4 and GP6 are in the indoor cage with lots of hay , water, pellets, bit of veg.

I don't want to drag her on but I dont want to let her go Sad

Oh 70 Sad Sad Sad

Sending positive vibes for poor little GP4. And gentle hugs to you and DD. This is the part that is so hard Sad

atheistmantis · 20/02/2017 23:28

Oh no :( plenty of snuggles for gp4 tonight I think.

FernieB · 21/02/2017 11:05

How is she this morning 70?

EastMidsGPs · 21/02/2017 16:40

Sad cannot bear to read this, paws crossed for GP4

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/02/2017 21:05

She was tucked up in a big cushion of hay this morning, bit wobbly when she walked over for breakfast.
They (Her and Bert) stayed indoors to give them peace and let us keep and eye on them.

DD and I gave her Critical Care tonight, I'm not sure she's eating enough and though she's making a valiant effort with the hay and veg, I want to make sure.

Her pee after her feed was only slightly bloodied and her undercarriage is cleaner (she was so digusted to have a bath she's probably wiping her bum on the fleeces)

She had lots of cuddles with DD, GP6 was wheeking when she was away from him, Bless .

Thanks for the update 70, I was thinking about her today and hoping she was fine. It's good she's interested in food as usual. Paws will remain crossed for her here. So sweet of Bert to look after her so well - he's such a gentleman.

dietcokeandwine · 21/02/2017 21:32

Aww bless her, and Bert.

All the dietcoke paws are crossed here too.

atheistmantis · 22/02/2017 04:00

Little GP hands and feet crossed here too.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/02/2017 19:12

GP4 made a quiet and dignified exit from this world late this afternoon.
She was getting to the stage that it was more stressful for her to have the Critical Care than it was benefiting her.
We made it really fluidy to give her water and food.
I was really not looking forward to putting her through a car journey and a vet trip (but it would've been booked tomorrow if she was lingering) , but Bless Her, she took matters into her own paws.
She was alive when DD came home from school and gone before 5pm.

Like she waited for DD Sad

So sad to hear this 70. She sounded like a proper character. It's lovely that she waited for your DD to say goodbye and far better this way at home than going through the stress of the vets. Poor Bert will miss her. How are the rest of the herd coping?

fortifiedwithtea · 23/02/2017 20:15

So sad and so soon after Oreo Sad. At least DD was able to say goodbye and no vet trip was needed.

RIP Trinity Flowers

atheistmantis · 23/02/2017 20:39

So sorry to hear that :(

dietcokeandwine · 24/02/2017 00:10
