What can I feed this chick?

I have rescued a chick of some sorts from my drain pipe, no idea what bird, but it has all its feathers and they are brown! Managed to get a pipettes and give it some water but what can I do now? If I leave it outside I'm almost certain one of the many cats around will eat him :-(
Can I feed him for a few days until he gets stronger? If so, on what??

It's worth ringing a local wildlife rescue place. Often they need antibiotics. You'll also need to keep him warm.

I have called one and they told me to leave it where I found it so the mother could feed it or simply let nature take its course...

Thank you for the link FernieB, I'll have a read. He seems to have perked up and is chirping so I've popped him on the inside of a window sill upstairs and left the window open. Hopefully his mum will make an appearance!

Wildlife rescues are inundated with calls about baby birds this time of year. If you've had it in for a few days they will probably take it off your hands. They're much better equipped to deal with them.
