Piggy with a swollen toe

LunaPig has developed a swollen toe - middle one on her left back foot.

It doesn't appear to be inflamed, filled with anything yucky or causing her any pain. The swelling feels quite solid.

We've bathed it with salt water a few times this week and it did appear to shrink a bit at one point.

Any ideas what it could be and whether or not a trip to the vet might be necessary? She's absolutely herself otherwise.

Sorry i have no advice ... we've had many different illnesses over the years with different piggies .. but not swollen toes.

However now i have another potential piggie illness/problem to worry about ☺☺☺

Well, now I'm worrying that I'm not worrying enough!

She seems completely fine, not in pain or any difficulties moving, eating normally and happy & cuddly.

It came up a few days after I clipped their claws but I'm sure I didn't over clip and it doesn't seem sore or inflamed so a bit of a mystery really.

If it's not sore, then maybe it's not Bumblefoot. Just as well to get it checked out though.

Bumblefoot (there are lots of pics online ) is aggrevated by dirty bedding or walking on wire mesh (some cages/runs have a mesh base , not good for piggies)

Is it at the base of her claw , where it meets the skin?
She might have injured it, might be completely unrelated to clipping.
Might have a small wound that has got a low grade infection or inflammation.
She might have even broken the toe (they are clumst animals Bless them)

If it's improving with bathing (use good strong salt water ) then carry on doing. Make sure she has soft clean bedding, no hard surfaces.
If it gets worse or anything leaks out then you might need to see the vets.

She generally has quite pink feet, but we do sometimes put a bit of aloe vera cream on them just in case it's the start of anything.

Always assumed bumblefoot was a lot more obvious & sore

Poor piggie, that looks quite swollen. I'd be inclined to trundle off to the vets for a check just in she's picked up an infection or a splinter. As its the weekend, I'd continue bathing it and see how it is on Monday.
