Ok, so I've done my research, I've looked at cages, food, bedding, whether to have sows or boars (although still not 100% on this) and of course I'd still probably have tons more questions if we did buy a couple but....

We were thinking of having indoor guinea pigs, can you tell me just how noisy they can get? When dp gets up at 6am, will their squeaks wake the whole house and disturb our grumpy neighbours? I can imagine that they would be excited to see you first thing in the morning Grin do just how loud do they get.

I reckon only one of mine ours makes much noise at all, except on fridge-optimism occasions. She's a bit of a whinger and tends to complain at being booted out of the haybox by the other two.

One of them quite possibly doesn't ever squeak, now I come to think about it!

We have outdoor guineas that come in for the winter. They do get stinky quite quickly and poo more than you could ever imagine Grin but it's not much of a job sweeping it all out and putting clean in. They live outdoors as long as possible as my two really really like being out on the grass (I have a cage with attached run) and always seem a bit fed up indoors after a while.
They are very cute, the two I have left don't like cuddles as much as their sister did but they will endure them for food quite happily. They do make a lot of noise in the morning when dh comes down but that's cos they know he will feed them to shut them up Wink, once fed they quieten down. They certainly are packed with personality for something so small and you will get a lot of enjoyment from them.

Put a couple of YouTube videos on of Guinea-Pig Noises. They have a vast range of noise (all mean different things which they'll insist you are fluent in Grin )

WRT smells- I found the hay smells strongest but I clean our guineas daily. (And in winter when they're in at night, in the Pighouse by day, that's two lots of cleaning)

Beware of scented bedding, they are very respiratory sensitive, their faces are right in their bedding.

One of our boars (GP2) used to riot at 6am, clangung his empty plate against the cage bars. He didn't believe in long lie-ins .

Our GP6 boar and GP4 sow are blinking noisy wheekwheekwheek especially the boar when there's food arriving (though it may stem from being in Rescue. Whoever shouts loudest gets fed first they say)
My pig GP5 is quiet unless she can't see the others then she shrieks.

My favourite sound is the one they make when you put something new in the run. They make a really puzzled hmm hmm hmm sound til they figure it out. so cute.

We have 2 bought last year for 13 yo DD, I wouldn't be without them now for the world! Always had hamsters before but piggies are so sweet, cuddly, loving and so damn funny when they hear your feet on the stairs at 8 am, knowing they will be fed soon. Ours sometimes share a bedroom with DD (school holidays when spare room is in use) and she doesn't find noise or smell a huge problem (not sure the piggies feel the same about her!).

Go and buy them, you won't regret it!

Watched a few YouTube clips of various GP noises. Grin. Sweetest things.

Ds announced he wants a rat or dwarf hamster Hmm
