GP traumatised by moving outdoors

The guinea pigs have a lovely new outdoor home, but so far they haven't learned how to go upstairs or drink from their water bottle, even though it's exactly the same as their indoor water bottle. And when I go and see them in the mornings they look at me with crazy staring eyes like Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining.

Oh I thought you were talking about your GP/doctor... Their practice moved outside and it was traumatising in this weather or something. Yes, doesn't make sense now that I've written it plus the thread is in the animal section... Blush

Don't let them anywhere near an axe or a door, and if they start chuckling in a crazed way, RUN!

Are there any special tasty treats you can put on the ramp upstairs. Extra treats when you pop out and see them should help.

GPs are easily bought with something nice to nibble Smile

yy, make a trail of celery / parsley up the ramp. They'll have it sussed in a day or two.

My pigs could never fathom out how to use a ramp (they had a wide, shallow carpeted ramp going up to the lid of the haybox). They'd walk down for food (on the the floor) but not up.

Put them upstairs with their hay and once they realise that's where their safe bed is, they should click.
Does the ramp feel safe to them (alot of them are steep and pigs aren't agile)They don't want to risk falling.

My Himmy does a very good wild eyed look, her ruby eyes are like glass and in the right light, pretty damn eerie Shock

tadpole I leave scissors in my pigs house to cut grass and open hay bags.

I'm seeing the folly of my ways , I fear.

SilverBirch2015 · 29/05/2015 22:39

Is it a rabbit hutch? We have just got a new one ourselves and the ramp was a bit steep for our girlies, so my DH did a few adjustments to the ramp to reduce the gradient, and within a day they were using it.

SilverBirch2015 · 29/05/2015 22:44

I trust you will be safe enough from a frenzied scissor attack if you keep them sweet with veggie, but do make sure you give a few dandelions for just to be sure!

Ooh I'm not sure about my safety, there's a reason these animals were all in Rescue y'know.

Checks Google for Cavy Convicts Page.

We used to have quite a vicious guinea (Lily) who used to nip us and her sisters. One day we just found her dead in the hutch, after not showing any signs of illness, and she was only about 2. We have always suspected the other girls pushed her down the stairs Hmm

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/05/2015 08:41

Aww poor lily, she tripped.
Tripped I tell ya.
Did the other pigs look shifty at all, or guilty?

One of my pigs from years ago was found dead in the middle of the dining room floor. She was the last pig so no other suspects, not ill at all. Just lay on her side and thought "No-one puts Evil Edna in a corner" , and went to The Bridge.
