Introducing new pig to others.

I've introduced HairyLemonPig to her three roomies yesterday in the outside run. There was some butt sniffing and a bit of chasing about but all seem very settled and not that fussed that she's there. They've been moved to their hutch and HairyLemonPig has taken up residency in one of the pig loos. She occasionally goes into the bedroom but seems to prefer to stay by herself in the pig loo or sat in a corner. I've sat and watched them far too much and no ones obviously picking on her, but she doesn't look very happy. She was kept with another piggy before I got her but the person sold them separately and it was too late to get both. Could she be missing her old mate?

She's most likely just bamboozled Brian all new to her and 3 pairs of new beady eyes on her. Did you move things and make them 'Pig Neutral' ?

They need to address their new hierarchy and your resident Pigs are probably thinking "What's occuring"?

Food will be her lure to come out and nosy round.
She probably is missing the familiarity of her old home and cagemate but they are social animals so the company now will be enough.

Smile

I'm sure all will be well Brian. It may take a little time and a lot of sharing veg before they're all settled together.

ImBrian · 22/05/2015 19:28

Poor thing, yes 70 I scrubbed hutch out and took out hides/go moved food bowl/hay etc. the pig loos I've put in are new.

She's a very happy piggy when foods on the go, there's lots of veg sharing going on.

My other 3 are slightly dippy babies so seem a lot more lively as they spend half their time pop corning and the rest asleep, unless of course they're stuffing their faces! Watching them is probably wearing her out.

How is HairyLemonPig this morning?
She might have stayed in her pigloo (like a lobster I always think. They have a very smal territory which they adhere to, one of our boars had a wicker house that was his )

Baby guineas are hard work for an adult pig. They're all popcorn~ey and running about, getting excited by a passing starling. If it's their own piglets, they cope with the lairy behaviour admireably. I could just imagine our sows if we got a young female (both girls are about 18 months now and had piglets in Rescue). They'd be most put out at these, these young things.

Early days still, HLP has got to assert herself and you are still getting to know her.

ImBrian · 23/05/2015 13:20

She spent the night in her pig loo or in the corner behind it but has just been pop Corning about whilst I cleaned them out. The other 3 are still a bit nervy and hide in the bedroom if they think I'm going to try and get them. HairyLemonPig is not bothered at all as long as I promise food.

She seems quite friendly with my dominant piggy and 2nd in command but the former bottom of the pile piggy is occasionally chasing her. I think they're deciding who's going to be last in the pecking order.

How were things after your piggy wedding 70?

they're lovely thanks Brian
When I gave them breakfast , then DD and I went to check them before we went out and I've just taken them some cut grass - they were all in the haybox.

This morning there were three little noses looking out of one doorway Grin

ImBrian · 23/05/2015 20:07

Awwww sweet, I'm pleased they're being good piggies Smile

I think HairyLemonPig has claimed the snuggle pouch as her own! She's currently rubbing her face all over it. She's a bit upset as apparently I just tried to murder her with a hairbrush!

love her nameSmile

Aww they are lovely pigs. Giggle has beautiful strong markings (my DD wanted a tri-colour. We had three self boars before she finally got GP4 who is a sand/white/black tri)

HairyLemonPig looks much neater but yes, you'll be in The Bad Books for the brushing (is she good or does she squeal like she's being skinned? )

I used to have a black Peruvian sow in my 20s. She was very good to brush but I kept her fur floorlength (otherwise they look a bit moplike) especially round her bum.

I love how they claim a particular hidey space as their own. Sows can be quite territorial can't they.

ImBrian · 23/05/2015 22:38

She squealed like she was being murdered and then ran away over the sofa shedding a thousand little white hairs in her wake! Once I caught up she huffed and puffed and ran away constantly till I let her get in the sack. GigglePig just stretched out on my knee and fell asleep bless her. HairyLemonPig is a lot feistier then my other three, much more vocal and if she doesn't want to be picked up or have lap time she doesn't half let you know.

I love tri-colours, one of my others is a tri but with a lighter tan colour. I really like Peruvians, I was hoping to get one but I spotted the mop with legs on gumtree and couldn't help myself.

My Himalayan was uncuddleable when we got her- I have a faint scar on my wrist from when she caught me the first time I met her .

Luckily, with time and perservance on our part , she will sit on my lap until she wants a pee (2 steps back , that's her cue).

She;s lovely unless (like yesterday) she has a bath, doesn't like water at all.

We wanted feisty adult sows and ,yes,we got them . GP5 would not have been a childs pet.
She can bite if she sees fit. DD and I don't mind but a small child would.
But she's imprived 10000%, put on weight and she;s beautiful. (GP4 and GP5 were part of a huge Rescue , over 300 pigs IIRC. And they both had piglets in the Rescue Centre. So she's entitled to be a bit unreasonable Grin )

ImBrian · 24/05/2015 08:50

She sounds like a right character, there's been no biting just huffing and puffing. She's better if I handle her outside then if I bring her into the house.

I've bought some posh and go shampoo from gorgeous guineas but I think I'll wait till she's more settled or she'll never forgive me!

Do yours live in all year round?

our gp does kicking when brushed and has crew cut bottom done with hair clippers as it is safer than scissors.

ImBrian · 24/05/2015 21:23

Does she sulk after? Today I am number one piggy enemy and need to be hidden from at all costs!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/05/2015 10:42

GP3 (our Rex boar now deceased) used to kick if we tried to catch him when he didn't want caught Grin

Has HairyLemonPig built a bridge and got over herself yet Wink
