Nuggets or muesli?

We have had our two guinea pigs for about three to four weeks now. We have been feeding them nuggets at breakfast and fresh veg and fruit for tea. Some days they have a mid afternoon snack.

They are on nuggets as they were on them when we adopted them. I fed my last guinea pigs on muesli and as I am coming to the end of the nuggets I wanted to get advice as to which will be best for them. They are nearly five months old. They are not keen on carrots.

Hmm. I'm thinking I'm doing this all wrong now.

I layer the base of the cage with paper then sawdust on top. What do you put on top of the paper?

I use the wood cat litter (it's like wooden 'pellets', I've seen it used in rabbit cages where they sit directly on it, but rabbits are tidy and use a toilet area) as a base layer then a layer of newspaper then hay.

The hay/newspaper gets rolled up and I scoop up any soiled litter.

When the pigs have their house sorted out to bond them they'll have litter, paper and Megazorb. (Hay will be seperate). I'm hoping (ha!) that I can take the clean Megazorb off , replace the paper, fresh paper and put the Megazorb back.

Mt girls pee through several sheets (I layer 2-3 whole newspapers , so 10-15 sheets thickness and they still pee through)

DD has the job of removing the staples (keeps her busy)

Still confused.

The boys are still in the indoor cage, DH is suggesting they can go in the outdoor hutch now, as I think they are too young to be outside on their own.

I think I need to reread guinea pig instructions though tbh we had my late piggies for five years and there didn't seem to be any complaints with what I did. I would like to find an alternative to the sawdust though.

I think if your guinea pigs are still babies and used to being indoors then I don't think I would put them out yet tbh. Someone with more knowledge will come along shortly though I'm sure.

My guinea pigs are babies and they live outside and have done since I got them last Tuesday. However they were from a breeder and have lived outside since they were born so are used to it. I still stick a heat pad in their bedroom area at night time though (which they mostly ignore) and put lots and lots of hay in their hutch though. They've also got a cover which goes on every night and sometimes during the day depending on what the weather's like.

They are five months old now and we've had them for a month.
