GPs - girls or boys

My last boy died in my arms yesterday, and I'm already thinking of getting some more. I hate the fact I no longer need to creep into my room in the hope of getting a few minutes peace before I'm squeaked at. It doesn't feel right, somehow.

I've had two lots in my life, both sets brothers, wasn't able to choose the sex myself. But I have now found a breeder, and think I might actually have a choice this time, so was wondering what the females are like? Is there any difference?

Aww very Sad Rabbits - but to have them die in your arms seems like the 'perfect' way to go to the end of their road.
(Our boar died on DD bed, he was too painful to be held by her, poor soul, but he was in his pet bed by her side )

Boars or Sows?

When we had GP1 and GP2 (brothers) then GP1 and GP3 (boars) I'd have said sows are easier as a child I had mainly girls.

We have the sows that we got 8 months ago to match with GP3 and though they are lovely (Rescue like GP1/2/3) they aren't as cuddly as the boars. Maybe it's just them (they were bred from) . DD commented yesterday about her boys being Love Sponges.

Sows are a bit easier WRT territory and space though.
But my gawd, they pee. Loads.

And though I wouldn't have wished for my piggies to have bred and added to the number of pigs in Rescue (though sadly, some of their piglets died) , it does protect them from some uterine growths.

My ladies aren't related, but I have had mum/daughter pairs.

I think you need to be open minded and see which ones catch your eye Grin

Thanks for that, 70.

I was thinking of getting a ma and daughters (person I'll be getting them from says she gives away her breeders occassionally, though I'd want to pay as that doesn't seem right...) but perhaps I'll stick to boars. Promblem is that I won't get to choose - getting gps anywhere near here is nigh on impossible, and I'm lucky to have found someone who lives near a friend, who can pick them up for me.

Am so excited!

If they offer you a baby sow piglet (for £) and a mum pig for free , then do it. Bear in mind you'll be doing them a favour too.
Ex breeders should still be quite young, most breeders won't breed their sows beyond 2-3 yo, so they'd have to feed and house her.

And you'll be giving a piggie a new lease in life.

( I seriously* can not imagine my daffy Himmy girl ever being still enough to feed piglets. She does everything at 100 miles an hour. Or maybe that's her "Wayhay, I'm free. Freeeeeeee^ I tell you"
While she tucks into food and lards about Grin
