Hardest decision time has come and I'm crying

DD1 noticed Coco staring at the wall tonight. Worse, behind her a huge puddle of pure fresh blood on a cabbage leaf. Like she had passed it there to be really easy for us to find. Picked her up and had a look underneath to check it had come from her (yep). I sat her on kitchen towel on a fleece and gave her a cuddle (she felt cold) and she snuggled in to the crook of my arm. DD1 cut her some cucumber and she ate that greedily, so that's something.

I gave Coco to DD1 to hold whilst I cleaned the hutch and I put a fleece in the bedroom with hay and I'm hoping the other girls will keep her warm tonight. I've put food in the bedroom for her and food near the doorway for the other 2 so they don't wander too far from the bedroom.

Just my luck, DH is in the States this week. DD1 sent him an e-mail and he has phoned me. Not much of a discussion me sobbing we need to 'do' something about Coco. I'm not putting her through surgery. DH I agree, she must be suffering. Put her out of her misery. Wait for me to come home if you want.

Coco is eating but hasn't got stuck into the bun fight at veg time for ages. I've had to give her a separate pile of veg or hand feed her on my lap. I wish she looked ill in her face. Her eyes are so bright. She has this way of making you feel like she is looking into your soul Sad

I'm going to ring the vet in the morning and I expect the outcome will be that she will be put to sleep. Am I going the right thing? Am I being hasty?

Sorry for long post Sad

Really pleased to hear she has rallied fortified it is great to hear she is more lively and sociable, that's thanks to all your intensive care! Hope the salad has invigorated her!

Grin at 'whites of her eyes!' Bless her!

Great to hear she's improving and YY to nice treats.
They do have that "I don't eat enough to keep a sparrow alive I'm surprised my bum hasn't clamped shut" look about them when they eat Grin

The squawking is really odd Confused. This morning I picked the girls grass. Coco had a large share on my lap. After a long cuddle and a cheeky wee in silence she give me a nattering. Which owners know means " I've had enough love now, put me back in my hutch immediately"

Back she went. The other girls gave her a nose to nose greeting breathe sniff or in other words 'have you eaten anything good we haven't had?' Wink Coco had another wee. Had a drink and then a squawk Hmm I had to listen to her have random squawks all morning. No obvious reason but not linked to weeing Confused

Cleaned out the hutch and gave them a packet of M&S rocket. Coco joined in the bun fight for that Smile I'm only putting fleece or a towel in the bedroom, something soft for Coco's bum. About an hour later I couldn't believe the amount of poo in the bedroom. They had all had a really good crap Shock and I got the ash pan out and chucked about 50 turds down the loo! Sorry TMI Grin

Coco had cucumber after her medicine tonight and dropped a full sized poo on the rug. DH did not share my joy at seeing its fully formed beauty Wink Grin

Right now Coco is sitting head to head with Naughty Girl. It looks like they are deep conversation while Millie sleeps under the water bottle.

She seems to be making good progress (I did notice on the "Rat" thread that you reckoned she wasn't out of the woods yet but hopefully quietly optimistic is the way forward)

It is tricky when there are 2-3 to be sure exactly what comes out of each pig.
Our tri-colour girl likes to wee as soon as she is put on a towel and I always watch her beadily to make sure she's not hunching or warbling. We had to wash her rump when they were in for Guy Fawkes week, we reckon boar-glue Envy vom.

YY to the excitement of a beautifully formed piggy pooh Grin DH doesn't 'get it' either.

I was cuddling the lardy love sponge GP3, he kept lifting his rump . I expected to see a pile of poohs on my lap.......it was just gas Shock
Honestly, what are these animals eating?

GP4 always pees in the Special Guinea Weigh Bowl (I have those flat digital scales)
"Ahhhh that'll lose me at least an ounce" she says.

They are putting on the winter blubber for sure, DH does a Guinea Spreadsheet, he was impressed.

Grin" Ahhhh that'll lose me at least an ounce" GP4 sounds like me when I brave the scales.

Went back to the vets last night. Vet did a round up of what we do/don't know.

Coco hasn't lost anymore weight.

The lump hasn't got any bigger or smaller.

There has been no more obvious bleeding

We have seen in the past week Coco be more sociable. She is eating and drinking.

Vet can't find out the cause of what is wrong with her without invasive procedures I won't put her through.

We had a talk and I said I thought the Baytril had done nothing, it was the Metacam that had made the difference judging by her most squawky times. We discussed long term use of pain relief and agreed that was the best course of action for Coco with the caveat of any change in her condition bring her back to the vets.

Right now all 3 girls are larding about their living room. Coco has had carrot and sweetcorn for breakfast.

So for now that concludes Coco's medical drama. I'm glad DH was away last week. I meant I didn't have the courage to make the 'final' decision.

Thanks to everyone for their support Flowers
