I'm not sure (from reading lots of advice on here) whether the area we'd be keep them (or what I imagined) would be suitable Sad

I have a large garden and patio area. Imagined that they could live in a big outdoor cage in the Summer and then (this is where it gets tricky) during the winter I would have to bring them indoors (don't have a garage and no room in shed) but the only room I could imagine we'd be able to home them would be the kitchen and from what I've read on here, this wouldn't be ideal.

The only thing I can imagine I could do is if I'm cooking I could put them in the living room. Kitchen doesn't get that warm unless the cooker is on, no direct sun during the day. Would this be a possibility?

Would appreciate any advice.

i keep mine outside in the garden all year long.

what is wrong with the kitchen?

R4roger · 10/10/2014 10:18

one winter I did put them in the shed btw but was fearful that it was dark in there and there were rats.
i only have one now sadly but am planning to bring her into the kitchen this winter as she wont have anyone to snuggle up to.

I think I'd worry too much if I kept them outside during the coldest part of the winter. I've heard lots of stories over the years of people waking up to find their GP's had gone to GP heaven because of the cold Sad

Someone said that they shouldn't go from hot-cold cold-hot. In the kitchen it gets really warm when I'm cooking, this is why I queried the kitchen area being suitable.

my only ocncern was once you bring them in you have to keep them in for a while.
can you make room in shed?

R4roger · 10/10/2014 10:25

does it get really cold where you are? You can buy special hot water bottles and covers for the hutch

We couldn't make room in the shed, they would be by a wall or fence so there would be a bit of shelter there for them.

I didn't think I'd have to think this much about it but I'm glad I've done my research.

We live in the North West so doesn't get as cold as Scotland but we've had some bloody cold winters, except last year which seemed really mild.
