Rabbit insurance- who is best?

Marmaladecat1 · 02/09/2014 11:16

We are getting a rabbit soon, about 8-10 weeks old.
I've had a look at petsathome, and petplan insurance. I know the supermarkets do pet insurance but who do I go with?

Thanks

I don't have insurance for my bun or any previous buns. The only vet expenses I've had are neutering, annual jabs and one previous rabbit had a tooth operation. Nothing cost more than £60.

I'm not sure that any of the supermarkets do rabbit insurance? We've recently gone with Pets At Home as they were about 1/3 cheaper than Petplan bond as I have six bunnies, that made a big difference. Pets at Home also offer dental cover for illness or injury. The excess is more and cover is also £1500 per year instead of Petplans £2,000, but it's really to cover us in the event of any big bills and I'm prepared to pay the larger excess as I feel the amount saved each month makes it worth it.

I didn't previously have rabbit insurance. Two bills for two separate bunnies in a month made me get it, they were almost £500 and £200 respectively. The £500 one would have been more if the bunny had survived, but we decided to put him to sleep after 24 hours as we didn't feel it was fair to continue with treatment as a good outcome seemed unlikely.

I have two buns and we are with petsathome insurance. It works out well for us, as you get free vaccinations and nail clipping as well as a free health MOT. One of ours was seriously poorly a few months back with tooth spurs and GIStatis, he was in vet hosp for a week and the bill was pretty huge. I think it's about £6 per bunny per month

Frogbubbles, they didn't mention anything to me about free vaccinations? This would save me a fortune, so I'm interested in how you found out about it please? Was it an offer at the time you took your policy out? They did give me a £10 voucher for the store per rabbit insured, which is great, but nothing was mentioned about vaccinations.

I would just ring and ask, when I took bunnies for vaccinations they asked me if I wanted insurance because then the vacs would be free, so signed up. It was renewed in jul? and both were vacs again as part of the insurance in aug

Hey Midori. Did you look into the free vaccinations? Smile
