Hi all, hope all of you and lovely guineas have had a good summer? Sounds like your guinea girls have got you trained 70!!
Just got back from hols to the sad news that rescue Boris died whilst his/her owners were on hols :(
Just to recap this was the cutest, blondest little guinea of indeterminate gender (!), who was rescued by a friend as her neighbour was disposing of him as 'surplus to requirements' .Angry He was about 5 we think. My friend gave this little soul lots of love, attention, food, outdoor activity etc for 10 months, so his last months were happy and cared for. Thanks

That just leaves one guinea nephew who is about 4, and pining terribly, weight loss, sad demeanour etc. he will be the last, but getting lots of care and love inside.Smile

Sad that is very sad news guineapiglet to hear that Boris has crossed The Bridge.
But as you rightly say , 'his' / 'her' Grin last months were ones where he was cherished (and he survived the Pig Sporn Abscess as well ).
It's very sad that he died while they were away, but hopefully he was as peaceful as possible when he went.
Still get the rage when I think how callous his ex-owners were Angry

Guinea-Nephew will be noticing how quiet it is now, but at 4 it's a very awkward age - you either have a never-ending spiral of pigs or you cope with a lone pig and make his life as interesting and cherished as possible.
At least Boris had a chance for the last few months to have that chance of waking up with piggie company.

The 70 sows are ruling the roost here. GP3 is very protective and 'herds' them up for breakfast and supper (well he thinks he is, he purrs round the houses and they scoot out to the plate first Grin

He's lost 2oz in weight since they all lived together (which sounds like a large % , but he did start off at 3lb, so he can afford to. The ladeez are steadily gaining which is good)

They don't ask for alot do they? Love, care, food, protection. Give them that and they reward you a million times over, even DH is happy to be a Pig Cuddler at night (though he's happier with GP4 than GP5 -who is still a bit batty, but improving. GP3 is definately a "Womans Pig" )

Hi 70,thanks for your lovely message, you are right, Boris had a good, caring last few months, and as you say, they don't ask for much.

Your new herd sounds fab, and I am very envious, GP3 has clearly landed on his paws and probably can't believe his luck!!

Hi guineapiglet! So sorry to hear about Boris/Borisina. He/she did have a lovely last few months and I hope the end was peaceful.

My boys have had an eventful summer. They've hit a midlife crisis and are bickering more than ever Confused. But apart from one minor biting incident (started by Smooth but finished by Scruffy) it's not been too vicious. They are about 3.5 years and looking a bit older and have both lost a slight bit of weight. They were both too porky anyway.

Just hoping that we have a few more weeks of decent weather so they can keep going out.

Fernie you need to be looking at Fattening Food for Guineas now (I don'r think many piggie owners think they'd ever find themselves saying that )

YY to grass (even in winter it's out there somewhere. I've cut winter grass and rinsed it under the tap to take frost off it, let it come to room temperature )

Readi-Grass - my pigs are troughing a handful when they don't graze.

Sweetcorn (especially in leaves)

Beetroot (not leaves) - gives attractive burgundy poohs too

Downamongtherednecks · 29/08/2014 23:18

So sorry about Boris. You don't realise how much you love them until they are no longer prowling around, causing trouble. Hope the others aren't too distraught.

Ah no more sadness on SFA, poor Boris Sad

At least Boris enjoyed 10 months of a happy home life with a human and guinea family and of course visits from Auntie Guineapiglet Smile. 10 months in the lifespan of a guinea is quality time.

RIP Boris, beautiful blonde piggy
