Bloody rabbits.......

Just spent an hour erecting a new run around their hutch. Complete with tunnels, ramps etc.

They spend all of 5 minutes wandering round it, trying everything out, and have now decided it's 'boring' and have gone to lay back in the hutch.

It's like children who prefer to play with a box than the toy!

The're probably tired - ours sleep during the day and become active in the evenings. Sheesh, though, they could be a bit more appreciative Grin

Floralnomad · 15/08/2014 13:13

Typical ,our old rabbit had the run of the garden during the day and used to spend every day sleeping under the same bush ,might as well have left him in his hutch .The only exercise he got was hopping down the garden to his bush .

You would think so.

Ooh - Snowball has just ventured out again. She's not usually this brave Grin

Mine is snoring on the deck at the moment, occasionally twitching an ear as the chickens trundle past. She likes to run madly around from 7am-9am, then 6-9pm. In between she only moves to annoy the dog tbh

I think they are sleeping in their bedroom atm, on a bed of lovely, locally grown hay (and ignoring the heavy rain).

They have only been together a month. Snowballs sister died, and she was really lonely. We bought another rescue rabbit, then spent 6 weeks introducing them. Snowball now sits and washes Thumper. His fur is really fluffy now. He looks like angoraGrin

Ungrateful little buggers Grin . Guinea-pigs would be roaring round popcorning and amusing you with their party tricks..................

They sound like they're enjoying their creature comforts at the moment and it's lovely to hear that they're bonding well. Maybe at dusk they'll be a bit more adventurous.

We put the pigs out in their run, the 3 of them cuddle up in their tunnel Confused , they're meant to be out grazing . Still, their choice

FernieB · 15/08/2014 20:13

By GP party tricks do you mean sleeping in an igloo? That's all mine do no matter how exciting I make their cage/run.

My indoor bun has the full run of the house but spends every day on a table in the conservatory. Sometimes he ventures into the living room and lies under a chair. He only really gets lively when it's bedtime and he runs round to escape me so he doesn't have to go to bed. Confused

My beautiful rescue rabbit died this morning. He was fine yesterday.

I got him to keep my other rabbit company, as her sister died earlier this year, and she was really lonely.

I bought him 3 months ago, had him castrated, then have been introducing them slowly together. They had only been together for 3 weeks. I'm absolutely gutted. Hmm

We were just getting to know each other. He was really intelligent (unlike my other rabbits who have all been remarkably stupid), and loved playing games.

RIP Thumper Sad

Oh Shock that is so Sad
Sadly you won't know what happened to Thumper unless you get the vet to do post-mortem tests (and I don't think I'd like to have one of my animals go through this unless I was showing or breeding)

Even more puzzling that he was perky 24 hours ago. But at least it sounds like he didn't suffer, it's the shock for you and your doe that's worse.

To be on the safe side, check all round their new run, make sure there's no chewed bits , anything he could've ingested, for your own peace of mind.

soaccidentprone · 18/08/2014 20:28

Thanks.

Snowball doesn't appear to have noticed yet that she is now by herself.

She is in a different run now, so I'll check out the 'rabbit playground' tomorrow.

Back to the problem of having a single lonely rabbit Hmm

So sorry to hear this. Poor Thumpet and poor Snowball - I hope she's okay. Thanks

LetThereBeCupcakes · 20/08/2014 08:43

So sorry OP - what a shock Sad

You sound like a lovely bunny owner though. Hope the rabbit playground is OK and Snowball can go back in. I'm currently renovating our rabbit house / wendy house and run - hopefully my buns will like it.

coastergirl · 23/08/2014 00:49

So sorry you lost your bunny. We have 2 boys. Used to have a girly too and she passed away very suddenly while we were on holiday in April. I felt so guilty, and hated that I didn't get to say goodbye.

Now we have moved house, our 2 boys take turns to have the complete run of the garden. They are very naughty and have built a warren underneath the shed! I've found that the females are far more intelligent. Penny was a bright, feisty little madame, whereas Troy and Harry really are rather stupid. Love them though.

frogbubbles · 07/09/2014 23:41

I'm so sorry, that's awful news I hope snowball is ok

soaccidentprone · 10/09/2014 09:26

Snowball is fine. She loves the playground I built.

But has to live in a hutch in the garage at night since a fox wrecked my gp's hutch and killed all 3 piggies.

I'm trying to find her another rabbit to bond with, but having no luck atm. Ideally, not a baby, who has been castrated. But have only been able to find pairs of adult rabbits.

I bloody hate foxes!!!
