We brought 2 girl piggies from a breeder just over 3 weeks ago for my sons birthday. We are all completely smitten and they are very pampered! Went to their hutch this morning to put them out into their large run on the grass. Picked up who I now think is mummy (she did seem to have grown very quickly especially around the tummy: I should have guessed!) gave her a cuddle, put her in the run. Went back to get 2nd piggie and found the baby all curled up in the corner Shock. Immediately went and put mum back with baby. Put plenty of food, water and hay in there. What else do I do?? Will she have more?? I was going to clean the hutch today obviously I will leave it a few days. My kids will be delighted, I'm in shock!

ahhh squeeee pglet is gorgeous - they are so sweet when they're tiny, trying to find their way round the run.
And you check all the spaces that OMG they might get stuck there

We blocked up tiny gaps that now we chuckle at the thought of GP3 getting a whisker into now Grin

Tell me about it! Yesterday I decided to clean out the hutch, put all 3 piggies in the run on the grass for 15 minutes, went back to put them back in the hutch. I reached in for baby who ran straight through the tiny gap between the chicken wire of the run and ran into the shrubs in our border Shock Shouted for DH and we spent 5 minutes trying to find it and catch it again! Finally managed to get it, thank goodness! It was terrifying I was convinced we would never find it and it would be eaten by a cat! All safe and snuggled in the hutch with no sign of trauma from its adventures. It won't be going out in the run again until it is much bigger..,

No still nothing! I am not a patient person but I reckon she might go another week.

The thought of having lost the little one must have been terrifying. Ours are indoor piggies and I'm fairly sure the babies won't be able to get out of the holes in the wire, but we have two cats, who may well find themselves outside or upstairs for a while!

we had an escapee the second time ours went out in the run, I looked out the back door and there was one the wrong side of the run! I couldn't believe he had squeezed out. real heart in mouth we'll never see him alive again stuff - how was I going to tell the DC!! but luckily we caught the blighter with the help of a box. and they had to wait 3 days for me to get chicken wire and reinforce the run before they could go out again.

DH put some plastic coated wire mesh round the bottom 12" of our run when we got GP3 (it's still on there, GP3 couldn't fit his leg through the gap now) and he wired up the side doors.

I close the catches on the run and tie with garden twine (ok , I need to cut it off each time but I know the cats round here do have opposable thumbs)
