Syrian hamster with very long nails, do I need to get them cut?

He's getting on for 2 years old and I've suddenly noticed how long his nails have become, do I need to pop him to the vets for a trim? Is this something a vet would even do? I'm worried about him catching them on. bits of his cage.

Yes, take them to the vet - they will check his teeth and general health, as well.

Thanks for reply. I popped him to the vets earlier and she attempted to trim his nails, saying she had never done this before. He was very still, scared stiff I think, but she cut his toe which bled quite a lot.

The vet then explained that she thought the reason his nails were so long was due to inactivity, which she put down to pain! So she sent us home with anti inflammatory drops. The drops are meant for dogs and the suggested dose on the instructions say 0.1mg per each kg the dog weighs. The vet asked us to give the hamster 0.3ml of the liquid daily. I gave him this before I read the leaflet about dog dosage and now he's gone all lethargic and odd.
