Is there any way to stop GP being bitey?

We got our girls in September and both can be handled ok, but whilst one is a real 'people piggy' the other is a bit temperamental.

Of course sods law it's the one that DD absolutely fell in love with Sad.

She wheeks loudly when she's picked up, is ok sat on a lap being stroked, but if she doesbt want to be picked up or we hold her for any length of time she nips - sometimes quite hard.

It's making both DD & I a bit reluctant to handle her as she will bite suddenly without provocation, and it's a shame because her 'sister' loves being handled and actually licks us as a sign of affection!

If she's happy on knees then let her sit there and give her something to eat to occupy her mouth. It could just be the way she is - they all have different temperaments. One of my boys squeals when picked up but is happy on knees - luckily he doesn't bite. The other boy loves attention but is actually quite bitey so he gets celery when he's cuddled and we've learnt to keep hands well away from his gnashersConfused.

That's more or less what I try to do - pick her up after she's eaten, or give her food at the same time and just have her as a lap pig, sometimes she just bites for the hell of it though.

Picked her up yesterday to put her back in the hutch after a whole morning grazing in the run, and held her for a minute or two as I was chatting to my mum and got a full on bite to my thumb for my efforts.

It's getting a bit like Russian Roulette picking her up so by default our other GP is getting more attention.

She is OK on a lap so I guess we'll stick to picking her up and getting her parked asap!

Our young boar is a bit fussy about how he's picked up. He's fine to lift and cuddle but doesn't like his right side touched (I've had a good prod about to see if there was anything amiss).
If DD lifts GP1 she can put her hands round him to lift. GP3 won't tolerate this- needs a flat hand under his belly and one under his rump. Or he does an unholy ragey scream.
(GP1 wheeks anyway but less so now. More a whistle)

And strangely , GP3 isn't wild about DH Confused . GP1 (and GP2) love DH and will cuddle for ages. GP3 is very judgey .

Oh and (point of the thread missed completely Blush )
GP3 can be a bit toothy, but DD and I are used to his ways, and DD is nearly 12 so it's not a nasty shock like it would be if she was younger.

He tends to grab hold of skin and pull, rather than bite.

And the little bugger peed on me tonight but I think I was ignoring his dancing . (My bad)

We had one who would pee on everyone - I think that's worse! Grin Guinea pig wee is horrible. Lap pig sounds like a plan :)

Mine are not too bad on that front.

I had Luna in on my lap (on a towel) for an hour and a half the other day and she didn't even poo!

She curled up like a cat & was v. v. cute!

My little black boar used to curl up like a croissant with his head under my chins Grin

A couple of times he lay straight, fell asleep and rolled down from my shoulder onto my chest (he was very judgey at that)

He also had the worst guinea-pig farts. Being bitten would've been nicer Wink

chins no that's GP1, I only have one chin Blush
