I know they can have broccoli, carrot, peas but wondered re parsnip peelings and tops?
Also thanks to you all for all the advice so far. The boys seem really settled now and getting more confident by the mealtime!

I give mine parsnip peel (not sure about the tops. They can have carrot leaves but not beetroot leaves)

Sprout leaves and stem (if you have the sprouts on a 'tree' )
Turnip (but mine aren't bothered by it)
Cabbage leaves
Cauliflower
Sweetcorn and the leaves

(Not potatoes, onion or anything from a bulb)

Be aware that brassicas (green cabbage type) gives them WIND Xmas Grin

Enjoy your piggies first Christmas- lots of photos of them looking in awe at the tree.

Our pig-teenager is having his First Christmas . DD did some photos of them in their hats.
GP1 doesn't like the hard floor, GP3 was very "S'okay Dad I'm here" and protecting him. (He washes GP1s ears)

(I can see GP1 is looking a bit middleaged and GP3 is definately Alpha Male now. But they are lovely together Xmas Smile )

Guinea pigs enjoy Christmas Xmas Smile

Naughty Girl enjoys a parsnip as did Fatimus RIP but new girls not keen. Millie Pig gave it a sniff, lick and small nibble, Coco wouldn't even try.

All my guineas love cauliflower leaves but not the actual cauliflower.

Never had a piggy that liked sprouts.

Don't feed them leek, its part of the onion family.

We've already started on the Christmas grub, including the guineas Xmas Grin

ours love onion

no potato peelings, no beans *not that we have beans at xmas anyway, no courgettes (well mine dont eat them)

xmas dinner for gpigs is greatGrin

ours eat leek tooBlush

honestly, they are 5 and healthy!

Two of my guineas (when I was a child) broke into the veg cupboard and helped themselves to leeks and the papery skin of some onion (but only the skin)

My little Abby boy loved sprouts but he was a very windy boy any way, he probably thought the Sprout Farts enhanced his charm Xmas Envy

mine are obviously renegades

they once gnawed through a bag of potatoes so i can report that potatoes dont actually kill them, although obv not recommended

and they try to steal toast when we are having breakfast

bad piggies

fortifiedwithtea · 24/12/2013 18:42

I can understand the appeal of toast. I bet mine would love to get to get their paws on a bit of toast.

My girls are alittle too fond of digestive biscuits Blush

70 I imagine that is exactly would Old Boy would say about asparagus. Parsnip was 'too new fangled for him' Xmas Grin
