I can't move

Because there's a very, very old, very frail rat asleep on my chest. She's eaten her fill of scrambled egg and crawled onto me for a sleep. I'm now unable to move until she wakes up.

Aaww little rodent cuddles Grin

(OK I'm trying not to think about the tail. I'm thinking of the freakily human like feet that rats have. Aaww )

How old is very,very old?

One of our guinea boars used to curl up under my neck to snooze, curled like a little croissant. If he lay straight he'd roll down my front Smile and be very judgey that he was rudely awakened. So I had to guess and put my arm out to support him.

He'd get comfy and pass wind

Will she wake up when she pees on you? (She will pee won't she)

KittieCat · 23/11/2013 23:54

Sounds lovely! I'm v jealous.

Madratlady · 23/11/2013 23:54

She's 29 months old but sadly she's gone downhill rapidly and has a fairly big internal tumour so we probably only have a few more days with her. She's relocated to snuggled next to me now, but she probably will pee on me eventually, our rodents frequently pee on me (I get peed on and my husband gets bitten, it's just how it works apparently).

Aww I'm learning to tolerate puppy farts atm.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/11/2013 00:13

When they seek you out for a cuddle you really are a captive audience.
A willing captive though,

Does she snore?

I've got a bitey hog at the moment our 6 month old boy. He doesn't bite so much as grab skin and pull. Same with clothes.
Little toad. He does stop if he's told off, looks shifty and settles down.
If he gets a bit niggly, I put my finger to his mouth "Go on then"
And he never does.
No fun if he's got permission.
He's not a biter IRL, he just likes to be a bit bolshy.

Madratlady · 24/11/2013 00:17

Nope no ratty snores here. I could put her back in the cage with her friends but I'm enjoying the snuggles too much!

I have a group of boy rats too and the youngest, who are around 6 months, are also very cheeky and have been known to try to steal our hands and clothes. Your boy sounds like fun, is he part of a group of rats?

No he's a guinea-pig.
Non tailey and all feet on the floor.

No scrambled eggs either. Wink

Tumours are a sad fact of rodent life.
We had a female mouse with a huge one years ago (had to PTS when it got too big)

Madratlady · 24/11/2013 00:45

Ooh fair enough. I only recently came to appreciate that guinea pigs are actually quite cool. I love the noises they make because I love pets that 'talk' to you!

We adopted our 3rd guinea pig today. I only went out to get school shoes for DS1 and ended up with a GP for DD1.
The new guinea pig loves having cuddles already and fell asleep on DD1 earlier.
There's nothing like GP cuddles.
DS1's GP loves sitting on his lap while he plays on his Xbox!

Madratlady · 24/11/2013 01:20

70 and Audilover your piggies sound lovely :)

You want be careful about ending up with accidental rodents though, we swore we were going to keep less rats as the oldies left us and I accidentally adopted 2 more recently. Both were apparently 'vicious' and must never be kept with other rats. They are now living happily with our older girl rats and no longer bite. I have a soft spot for misunderstood rats!

Bum - I bought a pair of black Vans for DD last week and I didn't get another guinea-pig. Just shoes

Must be going to the wrong shops [rant]

DD and I love looking a rats in the Pet Shop (we go to ogle guinea pigs , not to buy).
I love how the females swing about and the males sleep Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/11/2013 01:35

And our boars like to try to eat the cable of the computer while I'm MNing.
Silly rodents don't appreciate I'm saving them from a nasty shock -literally. Wink

Audilover · 24/11/2013 11:52

Madratlady I have no spare cages left now so I should be able to go out and return without any new pets. Poor old DP always has such a panicked look on his face when I say I have to go anywhere small furry animal related.
DD1 has a GP, DD2 has a hamster, DD3 has a rabbit, DS1 has a GP and DS2 has a GP plus we have a family cat as well.
All our animals live indoors. We like animals in our house! Grin

Madratlady · 24/11/2013 17:15

Your houseful of animals sounds good Audi We are full now too - 16 rats, a hamster, 2 (outdoor) rabbits and 2 cats. We'd love to have indoor rabbits but I think they'd chew everything and not get on with the cats!

Audilover · 24/11/2013 17:35

Our rabbit has a cage to live in but when we are at home she's allowed out a lot of the time.
She loves cables so somebody has to keep an eye on her when she is out.
She chewed through the cable to our wifi router once and we had to go all day without Internet. That was a long day and she narrowly avoided being put in a rabbit pie! Grin
I can't believe you have 16 rats. I've never had a pet rat but two of my friends have them and they say rats are great pets!

Madratlady · 24/11/2013 19:05

Rats Rats are amazing pets. Our rat numbers escalated slightly because I spend too much time looking at rehoming ads! We love having big groups and seeing them all interacting though.
