they seem to have somehow got out of the hutch though and are hopping around the garden.
tempted to keep the female, if there is, if we could catch her, but is that wise.
what should I do?

well unless they dig themselves a burrow, they will be fox food soon.

I presume your female rabbit has free range in your garden and that you live close to wild rabbits who can access your garden. Did your rabbit have the kits in her hutch or did she make a nest in the garden somewhere. The babies would not have able to go anywhere for a couple of weeks and so must have been well hidden if you have only just noticed them. As mum only needs to feed once or twice a day they would have been fine. If she had them in her hutch and they have all escaped then you should probably catch them all rather than leaving them to fend for themselves. They are too young to survive on their own and will probably be a tasty snack for someone fairly soon. Hopefully your rabbit is vaccinated as with wild rabbits coming into contact with her the chances of diseases being spread are high. All female rabbits should be spayed to prevent pregnancies and cancer.

I would catch them all, look after them and find them homes and get the female spayed ASAP.
