Keeping a single guinea pig

We have had a pair of guinea pig boars for about 2.5 years. One sadly had to be PTS yesterday. I am worried about the remaining one. Would it be cruel to keep him on his own? His cage is in he kitchen so will see us a lot but can't help but think he needs companionship. But being a boar can we introduce another g pig ?
Is it successful ?
I have read about introducing in neutral territory and having dividers in the cage.
Would appreciate any comments, or info from anyone who has done this.

Thanks.

Mine will also vouch for spinach.

KRITIQ · 05/11/2013 16:29

Just have to be a wee bit careful about the amount of spinach due to high oxalic acid and calcium content, but a little bit if that's what pig likes to get him eating is okay.

Cucumber generally seems to be a big draw, or maybe small pieces of apple? Dark leafy lettuce or kale might tempt him as well.

Keep us posted!

The bags of watercress, spinach and rocket are good, little bit of everything.

The checkout lady in Sainsburys was very impressed at my veg trolley today

So sorry to hear about Tompig. Poor little boy. Hugs for you. You did everything you could and he was very well cared for. Thinking of you.

How's your baby pig doing on his own now? He'll need lots of extra attention and cuddles.

You've had a rollercoaster of a time pig-wise recently. They are lovely little things and really do become part of the family.

Ooooh poor TomPig Sad

Sometimes with pigs there's no visible reason why they go.

How is your little new boy?

oddslippers · 07/11/2013 22:41

Yes we have had a sad couple of weeks, lots of tears been shed. New pig is a bit quiet, he's super friendly though which is nice, we're going to get him a new friend over the weekend as I don't want him to be on his own.
