Poor little rabbit thinking of offering to keep her

A doing some pet sitting at our house. Poor big beautiful female lop arrived in tiny cage (DH commented tht wasn't much bigger than our hamster heaven). She can only hop once and can't stand up. They've got a new dog and my understanding is the poor rabbit never comes out anymore. She is a darling so friendly and is currently happy as anything in our 10 ft outdoor run. We've not currently got any rabbit proof rooms. Do you think it's too cold to keep her out at night (I have a small hutch I could put in the run, it's all on concrete, weld mesh and all bolted)? Feel sad at putting her back in that box once it gets dark. When they get back I'm going to offer them the run and if they don't want it ill offer to keep her (what's another one when we have 6)?

Poor girl.
What about a box of hay or hay/straw for her to sleep in? Then she can choose. She might feel more secure in a smaller space if she's used to the tiny cage. But she'll have the choice if she wants her new found freedom.
I've got guineas so they are locked in their Pighouse at night (when it's not indoor winter time).
They have a haybox and they are toasty. GPs bodies wouldn't create as much warmth as a rabbit .

I saw a "Rabbit Hutch£ today in one of those discount stores. It was maybe 4'x18" (definately smaller than my boys indoor cage which is 4'x2') . So Sad to think of a bunny living it's life in that. Even a tiny bunny would struggle to do more than one hop. Sad

She's been binkying around like mad so very happy in all the space which surprised me. She's also bombproof and not one sound bothered her, neither did the other rabbits. I think she'd be great as an outdoors bun with a partner of course. Her fur is nice and thick so probably ok outside but I've just brought her in so she can have our company.

It's horrible when people keep rabbits in such tight spaces. When I see my Current Bun doing 'mad runs and binkies' round the house, it really shows how much space they need.

She probably would be okay outside at night, but if she is normally an indoor bunny it could be a shock to her system. As she is used to the small cage, I would be tempted to put her in it at night and let her out first thing in the morning. Poor girl - if my DH would allow, I'd love to have a girlfriend for Current Bun (not sure he would like it, as he has rejected all other bunnies he's met and is far more interested in dogs!).

It's quite cold at night where I am now and agree she might be better off to come in for some company at night. can she come out of her cage in the room where you are until you go to bed maybe?

It's a good idea to offer to keep her and the owners may be hoping that you will offer if they are bored of her now they have a new dog. It sounds like she'll be happier with you.

It's so fab seeing them hop about and binky, isn't it? My bunnies all have spacious outdoor accommodation and get to free range in our large garden as much as possible under supervision, but I still never feel it's enough.

I've been putting her back in her teeny cage once it's pitch black outside, luckily I get up about 5 so she's gone straight back out, leaping around like a mad thing. I can't have a house rabbit as the house is so difficult to rabbit proof but would be happy to have her outside in a bonded pair. She doesn't make any sounds overnight which is odd, poor girl. She's un spayed so keeps buzzing me and running around my legs so we'll have to get her done. She sneezes a lot too so I've put her far away from my other buns. Not sure if it's snuffles, no discharge and is well and loves her hay (I don't think they give her hay- although surprisingly her teeth look ok -but I'll get them checked). She's snoozing in the shade at the moment with legs kicked out, so she's happy I hope.

Take him to a good rescue FernieB, they'll find him someone he likes. My old rabbit had a fall out with his brother and both needed separating and re-bonding with females. The other brother found a female quickly and came home but his brother went through the entire rescue's supply of females and rejected/fought each one. The rescue owner had a new bun who she wanted to keep a little longer as was feisty but in desperation tried them after several weeks of failed attempts and it was love at first sight. When he got sick she stayed with him and laid by his side even at the vets until he died. She now has a tiny little friend from the rescue and they are adorable together too. Unfortunately I have a feeling none of my current pairs will accept a new female so I will need to get her a partner if she stays.
