There's alot of new piggie mums coming on board (and rabbits, rats, hamsters and all things furry)

So a thread to pool ideas (Grin pool see what I did there? Though I don't see my boys enthralled at a swim ).

What works for you. What can we try. What to look out for.
And don't forget he Flystrike risk Sad.

My boys turn their hairy little snouts up at water so they have watermelon and cucumber ,

I'm going to remove the hay bedding in favour of hack-rack and fleeces.

Persuade DH to line the haybox with ceramic floor tiles.

Plastic water filled bottles in the freezer on standby for quick chilling.

Come and add your top tips Wink

Well, DBoar1 is getting a haircut this weekend, so that should make him cooler! Their "room" is in the corner of the living room, so when we haul the fan out of the shed, they'll get the benefit of that same time we will.

At the moment, they are necking ice cold strawberries. I expect they'll be demanding Pimms and DH to fan them with palm fronds tomorrow. :)

GP2 (who is very fluffy and jet black - so not built for heat. His saving grace is he's very slender) was buried in hay today. Literally a shadow under the hay.
I put a plate of grass down (too rainy for outdoor play). GP1 dtormed out, GP2 meh.

He's livelier now thankfully but Hmm that boy is going to need careful micromanaging .

Just got back on here...

Was he sleeping 70? (One of my late gps - a sow - used to fluff up hay around herself but you could always see her head or bum sticking out.)

(Sorry you are dealing with fox threat btw.)

Also, used to worry about cats when we had gps... but can relax a bit more with rabbits ... they grew so huge I reckon they could see the average cat off ... one of them chases huge woodpigeons away anyway ...

Arf at Piggy haircuts and Piggy Pimms!

Bloody hot today!!

Mine were NOT impressed with their impromptu bath this morning (lasted all of ten seconds for each) so had ten minutes of free range garden time (which they wasted, as always, by keeping as close as poss to their run) while I sorted out a run in the shade of the garage for them. The long grass in there has been watered to within an inch of its life, so has the wooden hidey thing (an ill-fated bookcase I knocked together last week) I popped in there. They weren't happy but deigned to accept some guilt-powered parsley.
I'd rather they shivered for a bit than got sunstroke! Poor pigs. I think they'll forgive me. Hope the sun calms down next week or they might have to accept a dousing as part of their morning routine........

They sleep indoors and have one box in the shade, one box in plain light so they're okay there.
