So, I have just brought home 2 piglets! They are gorgeous? They are brothers, 12 weeks old and tan and white.

DP is constructing the hutch and I can't wait to get them settled in Grin

I have everything they need apart from fruit and veg which I'm off to buy in a bit. What's the best stuff to get?

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee piglets Grin

Do you know what they've been scoffing before you got them?
Off the top of my head (thinking what's in season and a favourite of my boys)

Sweetcorn (on the cob)
Carrot
Cucumber
Celery (ours love the leaves)
Rocket
Salad bags (but NO iceberg)
Peppers (mine like red/yellow/orange )
Romaine
Apple- tiny bits
Bananas
PARSLEY -GP1 favourite
Cauliflower stems (I give mine the white bit buy only a tiny bit)
Pasnip peelings
Turnip

Careful with cabbage, brocilli, greens- can give them wind.

When strawberries, grapes, melon are in season they love them

Offer them little bits. I give 3-4 choices for supper, different 3-4 for breakfast.
And if you can , fresh cut grass and dandelions.

There are loads of lists on threads here.
There are some definate NOs:

iceberg lettuce (too watery)
potato (any part)
beetroot leaves (the actual beetroot is fine but not in season)
Anything with a stone (peach, plums, cherry)
Lots of weeds they can't have,

Careful with herbs, mine go arsey with coriander. They love parsley but only as a treat.

And: anything you wouldn't eat yourself , you don't give the guineas.

Enjoy them, they're lovely.

Thank you so much!

I brought: parsley, broccoli, peppers, apples, greens, baby corn cobs and some oranges.

The lady I got them from said she squeezes the orange juice onto their food for the vit c because they don't produce vit c themselves. Should I give them vit drops?

The have a huge hutch, lots and lots or hay, some toys, a little straw house in the hutch that they can sleep in or eat and a mineral stone.

Have I left anything out?

I have a long tall run for them too.

I don't Vit C to my hogs-they have plenty in their food (pellets and veg) but I've got some in their First Aid Box if they need it.

Vit C isn't a stable Vitamin (I change their pellets daily) and it can react with metal (so you need to be careful what you put it in)
My pigs don't drink water anyway {weird}.

You can give them an orange segment rather than juice - but they are messy eaters

If they get plenty of greens/varied fresh veg everyday, imo they shouldn't need vitamin C - things like brocoli/kale/parsley are very rich in Vit C for example.

We were told to go easy on fruit as obviously it's sweeter/less good for teeth - our two only get fruit as a treat Smile

Is the run cat-proof so they can get lots of grass time? My two are loving the warm weather & the grass growing again!

Too much fruit does terrible things to my little boars bottom (WIND Shock )

He's got fabulous teeth though .

guineas can get mouth ulcers from fruit
the runs (can't spell diarrohea)

diabetes

(keyboard being lairy)
