We've just got two new rescue piggies

After the heartbreak when Blondie died we decided to give another couple of piggies a loving home. Went to a rescue yesterday and have now got a 3 month old and a 1-2 year old that is blind in one eye. They are in quarantine at the moment and after they have had a check up with the vet next Saturday we are going to introduce our two with our new arrivals. Even after a day they are less nervous around us.

In the meantime we are building a new C & G cage as we may be getting a very tiny little baby piggie in a few weeks if she pulls through. Children fell madly in love with her but she is still with her mother but had a bumpy start in the world as her mother was not well fed when she was pregnant. Thank goodness there are kind people running guinea pig rescues that save these little creatures.

Oh that is lovely news silver.
I know you are all still Sad about Blondie, but you've got the chance to give 2 (maybe 3 !) pigglies a lovely home.

I know the Rescues do there upmost, and give an environment for pigs that is a million perecent better than the homes they come from (not in all cases. Our boars weren't cruelty/neglect, just surplus)
But it is fabulous to get them into a forever home and see them settle. Then get a bit cheeky and liberty taking Wink

It will be a Shock for your two house pigs to have new friends but hopefully they'll all settle down (and gang up on you when they hear the fridge opening).

Is the tiny piglet a singleton or did the rest of her litter not survive? Sad

Aw, I hope the little one pulls through and comes to her fur-ever home shortly.

It's a lovely thing to do, it must be hard to lose a loved small furry, but at least it means that potentially three more piggies have found a loving owner, who will give them a fantastic life just like Blondie had. That's a wonderful legacy to have, and I am sure Blondie is watching from Rainbow Bridge approvingly.

Do we get pictures?

I'm going to use that on the boars Wink

Hi 70 and Rabbits thanks for your lovely messages. It is weird at the moment as the two sets of pigs have not met yet. Luckily I am off at the moment so can set aside separate cuddle times. The piggie that has a blind eye is really enjoying relaxing in the hay. I am watching her closely as the GP rescue said there was a slim chance that she may be pregnant. The other piggie looks like a mini version of Blondie and talks all the time. A really happy little pig.

hi - what a lovely thread to read, so happy you are feeling up to getting some new guineas, and do hope all works out for them all- have some years of experience of trying to integrate girls, and it does take a little while, they need to get used to each other's smell etc, two separate hutches where they can see each other and get used to seeing each other is helpful, in general it took a few weeks, but it sounds like you are having fun doing it, - one of our girls was completely blind, but had an amazing sense of smell, usually cucumber from 50 years away! The others seemed to look after her and were very over protective of her, really hope all goes well, enjoy them, they are lucky to have found you!
