Guinea pig advice

Our GP Boar was a rescue from a re-homing centre. We have only had him about 5mths (we believe he was 3yrs when we got him)

He started out very friendly and tolerant with being handled. However, this last week he turn to one side trying to bite you or himself whenever he is picked up.

When we carry him to move to the run, he then rolls on his back kicking his back legs. His breathing once became erratic.

He is eating well; wetting/soiling; otherwise ok.
Any ideas - it has put us off holding him. And I'm wondering if these problems are happening other times - not just when vein handled?

Meant being handled (not vein?!)

Any suggestions please!

Something definately wrong for his temprement to change.

Most likely he's got a sore spot - could be a tick (my cat attacked me when she had one. They are hard to see)

Could be a sprain/strain

Sore/broken tooth?

Eyesight?

Infection in waterworks - GPs don't always drink alot. Can be prone to bladder stones.

Best get him to the vet to have a full check-up.
He's telling you something is amiss. Poor little chap. Sad

Thank you. I will get him checked over. I handled him earlier wearing soft gardening gloves and he was much better. (perhaps because I was more confident?!)

Thanks for your support

I agree, go see vet. Something is making him very unhappy. I am thinking abscess.

Hi , hope he is doing better - he is definitely telling you he is in pain - the fast breathing is usually the sign - as everyone else said, it is a bit of an imprecise art trying to guess, but if he is eating and drinking at least he is trying - could be many things, are there any obvious lumps anywhere? Hope all goes well at the vet.

He has been much better today. Vet couldn't find anything obvious, so treated with lice/mite/tic drops. Also got cream for a rapidly developed sore patch.
Thanks folk, you all know your piggies very well Grin
